it might not be a sad day for SOME people, but for me its a pretty sad day. for those of you who dont know jacen aratan too well, he's not all of what he has been made out to look like. he is a person that believes greatly in what he deems right and has the guts to back it up without worry of consequences. I mean really, no good deed goes unpunished. He was the first face i saw at the ja and he helped me set myself up at the ja without looking down on me one iota. I was the worst ja n00b the ja has ever seen, jacen didnt care, he took me under his wing and taught me all he could and found the right people to talk to when he didnt know something. he was a fantastic friend, mentor, and teacher. not to mention deadly with guns (ctf) he was always there for me, i know he still is there for me but there are alot of people who are gonna miss out on "jacen style" ja. there are some who have trouble accepting people for who they are, i can understand this, its the other things these people do i dont understand. im not gonna point fingers, but to those of you who know who you are, know that you probably will never get the chance to clank beer mugs with MO cuz i dont hang with people who "hide" jacen i dont agree with the premice you left under but i salute the balls it took to make that post and express yourself your way. I speak for me and the ts crew when i say "OMFGH4X JACEN, YOU TOTALLY PWN AND WILL ALWAYS PWN!" for those of you who didnt get to meet jacen and just hang out with him you have my sympathy. jacen aratan, MO will miss you alot brother, know that well. I just want to point out that the community is saying good-bye to n00b n00b (Jacen). He's still alive and breathing, at least as far as I know, so it's possible to catch him on MSN or IRC if you wish to talk to him. Just want to add my two cents. Jacen, I know you're going to see this. I have to admit I knew it would come to this eventually. You were always a bit uneasy (understatement ) with some of the JACs and the rules we had to enforce. But that's cool. I'll miss you man. You and I were always cool with eachother, even at times we didn't see eye to eye with certain situations. It's always sad to see someone who has been at the JA this long, especially an old JAT, go out like that. But it happens. Take care man. Don't eat all of the pepper on your future ventures. As far as fear in the JA goes, yes, there is fear. Not fear of power hungry admins, that doesn't exist here. The only fear that floats around is the fear of disrespect. People are and should be afraid of disrespecting eachother. People are also afraid of being disrespected. It's a natural thing, unavoidable. But what makes this community so great is that fact that we are a pussy-whipped Brady Bunch family. Most people here do care wether or not they hurt someone else's feelings. And the ones that don't are forced to say things that much softer than they intend to. It's what's kept this place going for so long. You want to call the staff members power hungry assholes with a chip on their shoulders for everyone who makes a small mistake. You're wrong. 99 percent of you have no idea what it's like to be a JAK+, and probably never will. You don't know how frustrating it can be. Those of you who are administrators on other communities find it much easier because you don't have 39852492469846 looking up to you and constantly asking you for help. Sometimes the JAK+ have to be something they're not in order to uphold the reputations. But mistakes slip through, naturally. They're only human. But all they ask for in return is a little more respect than 99 percent of you show them. After all of the time they put in, all of the emotional stress, all of the classes and training, they still get short end of the straw when it comes to being respected by their fellow members. Why? Not because they go around flashing badges and warranting bans 24/7. But because humans are ungrateful sons of b*tches. Some also have psychological issues that won't allow them to say "thanks" every now and again because they are afraid of being thought of as weak. Whatever the problem is, the staff members don't get nearly as much respect as they deserve, yet they still hand out more than what the students deserve. That's why they were chosen, because there are people in this world who do care and are afraid of disrespecting others. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the JAK+ are all correct and show complete respect 100% of the time. There have been plenty of incidents which show otherwise, Lord knows how many I was a part of as a JAK+. Anyway, to wrap this up, yes there is plenty of fear going around. But not the same fear that some of you have been discussing. Read between the lines. If it were the fear of getting banned for stepping on someone's toes, the JA would not have lasted as long as it has, and would not hold the reputation it has among the internet community. And yes, the JA has an outstanding reputation among most of the internet communites, despite what some of you may think or have heard in other ones. We're one of the central hubs for Star Wars geeks. Let's remember that common ground, the one thing that led us to this website. We are all Star Wars nerds (except you Aron, you don't even know what Han Solo was frozen in ), and this is a Star Wars community. Its a shame so many people get the wrong impression of what we as staff are trying to acomplish. Of course that doesnt mean your oppinions are wrong, quite the opposite it shows that even after 3 years of work we still have plenty more to do and plenty of mistakes to learn from. Id love it if some of you guys could give me a shout on msn sometime and chat about any suggestions you may have. It sucks that Jacen went like that, but it's what he wanted to do. He knew he would be banned. I'm gonna miss the guy, though. Hope I can still catch you on IRC sometime, Jace. I never saw eye to eye with him on the language issue, but Jacen has some interesting points. People get angry. People do stuff out of character for them. People are people. While Jacen did blow up in that thread, it's important we continue to think of him as he is: someone who was a huge contributer to the JA and made the community a great experience for countless numbers of people. Even though he is now banned, he's always going to be one of the bros to me. There isn't an admin command yet that takes that away. You rawk, Jacen! |

bahhhh, whats the point, he left on his own. he knew that if he walked that line it led straight outta here, but it is happening more cuz the game has gone sour and there is just so much you can do before you toss it to the side but there is a lot of elitism for an organization that bans recruiting, only forums I go to where you can't recruit are clan forums, this isn't a clan yet it has ranks, its scary DJ, you seem pretty cool, you have humor and you use it well, and you can and have been quite decisive even though you probably have a big procrastination streak in ya. I dig it, I am right there with ya. i've been werkin on the family site for far too long and haven't published anything yet. I think we all need to take a deep breath here. 1st off lets not rain on Motrec's parade. Jacen's a friend of his and Mo' is trying to send him off in style. 2nd: Vee For: You're correct. This isn't a democracy. It likely never will be. Can you imagine how this place would run if it's run by comittee? Take the voices in this thread as an example. All these opinions and the place would grind to a halt.3rd: I like Jacen. I think he's a good guy. He's one of the best staff members we've had. I can't recall if he left before the purge or not, but that is irelevent. If he has an axe to grind thats fine. Anyone here can come talk to me and I'll do my best to fix whatevers troubling you. Jacen didn't do that. He posted a thread calling us at the top Nazis. That was stupid if he intended to not get banned by what he posted. I talked to him after all this went down. We discussed it and we both know where we stand. I still think highly of Jacen and still think hes one of the best staff members we've ever had. I got some insights from him that I'll address with the rest of the staff. 4th: Those know me IRL probably know that I swear like a sailor. I personally have no problem with swearing. But people tell me they bring their kids here. So in an effort to keep this place kid friendly we try and limit the bad words around here. I'm not going to lock this thread. The trouble is setementor, Is the JAC and you and whover else mistake voicing one's opinion for a bad attitude. Really, since I've been here, Ive been warned by many members who not to say anything even slightly off-color to, and they've all been JACs or JAT's or whatever you guys call them. It seems to me that they themselves possess a bad attitude, and are extremely judgmental, as well as unwilling to hear out the views of anyone other than themselves. Now normally, this wouldnt work, however, there are too many subordinates here who are willing to do anything to stay in good graces with the higher ups. You'll find this funny, I was called disobedient by one of the JA members. I never laughed so hard in my life. This is a game, and if any of you are OBEDIENT to anyone online, then you should get serious help. Obedience is for children, dogs, and enlisted men. The arguement about swearing, the jaks say that people are unintelligent, cant put together correct sentences and need to swear to make up for linguiatic or mental deficiancies, that's absurd. However, like all other threads that are even slightly provacative, this will no doubt be closed, and punishments handed out, for the JA is not a place to be treated as equal people, but rather, to have the will of a few imposed on the lesser many. _______________ I know whats been troubling you......
