Some help needed... -doobie - Feb 14 02:59am

Recently, for reasons necessary in order to keep his sanity and avoid 70-hour work weeks, our trusty Chief Technology and Nachos Officer (CTNO) DJ_Sith gave his notice to his job... that as a benefit has been hosting our website and servers. Unfortunately that means that we don't have free access to these services (or in techie nerd terms we won't have the perks of DJ working for a large datacenter, namely control over DNS zones and a free colocation. This means we're going to move web servers again and we're gonna have to pay for it. Since the servers run on the same box as DJ's personal website and mail, he's generously offering to "take the brunt of the cost", but we certainly have no interest in him taking the entire cost himself. The Council and are plan on donating money as we can based on our respective incomes, and our JA paypal account has some money in it that we can use as well, but we could use your help.

Please, if you can, visit this link and donate whatever you can to the Academy. This most certainly is NOT required, and donating or not donating will not impact your standing the JA at all, but it will help us keep this place running for as long as it's wanted (plus, I hear of a new Star Wars game coming out which looks pretty fancy and, while it's a console game, could mean more PC games are on the way... hmmmm). So please, help us out! Every little bit helps, and, assuming I set up the account correctly, we can accept both bank account transfers and credit card transfers.

Thanks and VIVA LA ACADEMIA!!!

ok just my two cents, what are we trying to raise for montly costs? If there was a better Idea of the need maybe more people would be inclined to contribute? not saying we need a detailed finance report but an idea of the cost involved might help, but might not.... also since we will be moving the servers any chance on getting one over on the WEST coast for all of us on the other side of the island? or maybe one that is more central so the pings will be a bit more even :P toss me an e-mail on what it would take to do it I'd be willing to kick the idea arround hosting it if its at all possible for me to do :D

I can host the whole thing if you want. I do nothing with my swdroids domain, so I could delete it and set this up there. Least an inactive geek is good for something.:P

I respect this place a lot and have had some fun times here, but I think that it wouldn't be fair to the people paying for this to have to do so for a community that has died down from the lack of interest in a game that this community and many others has been based upon. Honestly, hardly anyone plays on the servers anymore and we have so many different articles/suggestion box-type deals trying to garner some morale into playing this game again. If these aren't signs that point to a dying community, then I don't know what are.

Not to mention, there's not much discussion going on anymore about the game itself, it's more about things on the "General Discussion" side of things. I mean honestly, let's look at the class enrollments for all the classes this week. How many people have signed up altogether for the alotted [whopping] 15 classes? A nice plump five people!

However blunt this may sound, I suggest to simply shut down the site to benefit those that are paying for it and having to make it a constant job to have to keep the forums up. I'm sure we can find some other forums to peruse around and mingle. I really just don't see hope for a community like this on a game that has no interest invested in it by people anymore. Maybe one day LucasArts will decide to create a new game in the series, and then it'll be worth the effort to continue a community such as this once again.

It's sad that you get so little out of this place. It truly is. But the fact of the matter is that alot of people like hanging out and just shoot the breeze here. It's been around for worse times without giving up and thats why so many has stuck with us through the years. So forgive me if I find your opinion on this a tad out of place.

Donations are volontary and those that decide to pay for it's existance obviously wishes the JA to remain. That is the only merit I need to keep doing my jobs here at the JA.
You are of course entitled to have an opinion. But I think you will find very few that agree with you on the JA's future.

Donation is voluntary. As far as i know, noone will be forced to pay anything.
Everyone has to decide for themselves if donating money would be "fair" or worth it.

I never said that it wasn't voluntary, of course it's voluntary. However, I'm stating my opinion of how donation of money to a place that doesn't serve its purpose effectively anymore isn't something that is beneficial to them (or at least if I put myself in that position. Sorry if I'm not the most altruistic person in the world).
