it might not be a sad day for SOME people, but for me its a pretty sad day. for those of you who dont know jacen aratan too well, he's not all of what he has been made out to look like. he is a person that believes greatly in what he deems right and has the guts to back it up without worry of consequences. I mean really, no good deed goes unpunished. He was the first face i saw at the ja and he helped me set myself up at the ja without looking down on me one iota. I was the worst ja n00b the ja has ever seen, jacen didnt care, he took me under his wing and taught me all he could and found the right people to talk to when he didnt know something. he was a fantastic friend, mentor, and teacher. not to mention deadly with guns (ctf) he was always there for me, i know he still is there for me but there are alot of people who are gonna miss out on "jacen style" ja. there are some who have trouble accepting people for who they are, i can understand this, its the other things these people do i dont understand. im not gonna point fingers, but to those of you who know who you are, know that you probably will never get the chance to clank beer mugs with MO cuz i dont hang with people who "hide" jacen i dont agree with the premice you left under but i salute the balls it took to make that post and express yourself your way. I speak for me and the ts crew when i say "OMFGH4X JACEN, YOU TOTALLY PWN AND WILL ALWAYS PWN!" for those of you who didnt get to meet jacen and just hang out with him you have my sympathy. jacen aratan, MO will miss you alot brother, know that well. I don't care if we quote a song lyrics, but if I can't say @$$hole then I don't want to read Eminems lyrics based on the premise that it is art. its a double standard dude, and if you are cool with living under the oppression of a double standard then go right ahead, I don't so I use my right to speak and speak out. Jacen had it coming, he went off on a totally inappropriate post and he got banned. The only thing that was done well was that his post was not editted so that we, the community, can see what not to do, this is not standard practice by the way typically "illegal" posts are editted by the thread closer so we don't get to see what not to do unless we hover in the forums and read it before a JAC. Oh and the stupid "You got banned, Mister" monopoly card is funny, but very immature for an organization such as this, a community that heralds itself as being such an influence, having such a reputation, and such a contributor. Please this is a gaming site, with some international culture, flip of a switch and its gone. Lets not over exaggerate the value. as a member of this community, regardless of my time with this site I have been a fan of Star Wars longer than most of you have been drawing breath, I want to see this academy continue to do what it does. Teach people the game. to do that effectively the JAC's need to recruit alot more trainers, maybe trainers don't need to be knights first. the next thing would be to do something that would make us, the community, feel like we have a say in this academy, instead of instilling fear that if you don't do what and when you are told then you are nothing. 3 years is a long time for a clan, and yes this is a clan, to stay together and if it wants to go another 3 years it is going to have to adapt to the new climate, Jaiko recognizes this, I am sure Virtue does as well or he wouldn't be making a new map. While this community, the academy, does have a stellar reputation it needs to be able to adapt to the needs of the community or just become a clan outright and quit this "we are not a clan, we are a hang out" business. JA is a clan, complete with structure and ranks, a very difficult clan to get into yes, and because of that the "99%" of us are left out, we don't get to be anything but fodder to this organization, a statistic for the boasting. I said bye to Jacen, that is what this thread is for, but no one can or should attempt to control any conversation about how this clan does business. Doing so restricts the membership and this place is nothing without its students so we deserve a little say in it. I am not suggesting that democracy would work here cuz it wouldn't. Teh people who pay the bills and set up the servers deserve rank. The players that whoop it up every night deserve it too. When a Knight chooses a padawan he effectively selects someone that he feels can be a knight someday. Padawans deserve a rank, they also should be officially helping the Knights fulfill their duties. If it is a pre-requisite for Trainers to actually do training, then all members of the structure should do training. I could go on and on but I will leave with this thought. You know how when you get stumped, you can't find your glasses, you can't figure out why your car won't start, etc. You go find someone to help you, its called a fresh pair of eyes. Oh dear, a touchy thread and wolfwood starts making a post.... you guys sit down and get something to drink because this is going to take a while. First off, I'd just like to say that Jacen is my friend, and no matter what he does it will always stay that way. Jacen taught me a lot of stuff, and that's defenately not saberwise (we all know how he feels about that these days). When it comes to CTF, Jacen took the time to teach me the basics of it and pretty much made me into the CTF player I am today. I also picked up a lot of languistic stuff from him. I mean the guy manages to make english lines with words I have never seen before. I can go on for quite some time about this but, the bottom line is, Jacen is a good guy and I still think he is no matter what he has done or posted or whatever. It is how he feels about it so I respect that. Ofcourse his way may not have been the smartest way to adress the subject, but still, it was his choise, so I respect that. Jacen, if you get a chance to read this, you rule, period. I'll see you on the Jolt server for sure. Which brings me to the next thing I notice when I read this. And I gotta say this, I am like 0_0, wtf? Because I see people flaming motrec, giving unasked comments, and even people questioning the way the JA is made. There are quite a few newer people here who do not know Jacen the way the 'older' (god I hate that word) people do. I have been here for quite some time and I had a lot of chats with Jacen about numerous stuff. I fail to see the reason why you decide to flame Motrec for his post, if you do not even know Jacen the way he does. Think about that please... Then to the next point. Why are the ranked members under fire? They are doing their job the way they are supposed to. I have been a Knight and a Trainer so I think I can say I know what I am talking about when it comes to that subject. It has been said already but I think several of you fail to see that they give up a lot of free time (trust me, its a lot, I speak out of experience) to keep this place going. Yet all they get in return is unhappy people commenting on the actions they take (This is just a generalization, I mean, there are a lot of people who DO appreciate it, so don't bother to post that you feel offended by this because you are not one of them ). You do not know half of what goes on 'behind the scenes'. Again I ask, why give comments on stuff you don't know the full story about? I give a big thumbs up to the Ranked members for spending their free time into improving the JA as much as they can. Buzz has been given the nasty job of being the Enforcer, with Aron along his side. Meaning he has to deal with all the trouble and solve it in the easiest, and best way for the Academy. Think about it this way, if Aron and Buzz were not here, how do you think the JA would be? (Don't say stuff such as, someone else will do it, because that is not my question). I mean sure Buzz takes fire when he does stuff, but if that was me doing the enforcing, I'd be the one taking the heat every time. Give the guy a break please... The democracy thing simply would not work. This is a Jedi Academy. Look at the movies. The council has the final word. Even if we would not hold true to the movies, it would still be impossible. So many timezones, so many people with different lives. The important decisions need to be made fast. They should not take a week do be decided because not everyone is able to be online. I agree fully with DJ_Sith on this. Bottomline of this post is basically: Think before you post. This is an online community, therefore it is impossible to notice bodylanguage or the emotion of which a line is spoken. Which results into the fact that the only way you can communicate is through text. Remember, in text, stuff can be easily mis-interpretated. But I do think that several people really need to reconsider the things they have said in this thread. Motrec, thumbs up for making this thread. You're the man. I just want to point out that the community is saying good-bye to n00b n00b (Jacen). He's still alive and breathing, at least as far as I know, so it's possible to catch him on MSN or IRC if you wish to talk to him. Just want to add my two cents. Jacen, I know you're going to see this. I have to admit I knew it would come to this eventually. You were always a bit uneasy (understatement ) with some of the JACs and the rules we had to enforce. But that's cool. I'll miss you man. You and I were always cool with eachother, even at times we didn't see eye to eye with certain situations. It's always sad to see someone who has been at the JA this long, especially an old JAT, go out like that. But it happens. Take care man. Don't eat all of the pepper on your future ventures. As far as fear in the JA goes, yes, there is fear. Not fear of power hungry admins, that doesn't exist here. The only fear that floats around is the fear of disrespect. People are and should be afraid of disrespecting eachother. People are also afraid of being disrespected. It's a natural thing, unavoidable. But what makes this community so great is that fact that we are a pussy-whipped Brady Bunch family. Most people here do care wether or not they hurt someone else's feelings. And the ones that don't are forced to say things that much softer than they intend to. It's what's kept this place going for so long. You want to call the staff members power hungry assholes with a chip on their shoulders for everyone who makes a small mistake. You're wrong. 99 percent of you have no idea what it's like to be a JAK+, and probably never will. You don't know how frustrating it can be. Those of you who are administrators on other communities find it much easier because you don't have 39852492469846 looking up to you and constantly asking you for help. Sometimes the JAK+ have to be something they're not in order to uphold the reputations. But mistakes slip through, naturally. They're only human. But all they ask for in return is a little more respect than 99 percent of you show them. After all of the time they put in, all of the emotional stress, all of the classes and training, they still get short end of the straw when it comes to being respected by their fellow members. Why? Not because they go around flashing badges and warranting bans 24/7. But because humans are ungrateful sons of b*tches. Some also have psychological issues that won't allow them to say "thanks" every now and again because they are afraid of being thought of as weak. Whatever the problem is, the staff members don't get nearly as much respect as they deserve, yet they still hand out more than what the students deserve. That's why they were chosen, because there are people in this world who do care and are afraid of disrespecting others. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the JAK+ are all correct and show complete respect 100% of the time. There have been plenty of incidents which show otherwise, Lord knows how many I was a part of as a JAK+. Anyway, to wrap this up, yes there is plenty of fear going around. But not the same fear that some of you have been discussing. Read between the lines. If it were the fear of getting banned for stepping on someone's toes, the JA would not have lasted as long as it has, and would not hold the reputation it has among the internet community. And yes, the JA has an outstanding reputation among most of the internet communites, despite what some of you may think or have heard in other ones. We're one of the central hubs for Star Wars geeks. Let's remember that common ground, the one thing that led us to this website. We are all Star Wars nerds (except you Aron, you don't even know what Han Solo was frozen in ), and this is a Star Wars community. You know my msn if you ever fancy a good old fashion chin wag. As for my standpoint on ...well this(looks down). Its a shame so many people get the wrong impression of what we as staff are trying to acomplish. Of course that doesnt mean your oppinions are wrong, quite the opposite it shows that even after 3 years of work we still have plenty more to do and plenty of mistakes to learn from. Id love it if some of you guys could give me a shout on msn sometime and chat about any suggestions you may have. I never saw eye to eye with him on the language issue, but Jacen has some interesting points. People get angry. People do stuff out of character for them. People are people. While Jacen did blow up in that thread, it's important we continue to think of him as he is: someone who was a huge contributer to the JA and made the community a great experience for countless numbers of people. Even though he is now banned, he's always going to be one of the bros to me. There isn't an admin command yet that takes that away. You rawk, Jacen! |

ok guys think about this, if there wasnt anything to fear then it would be open season on everything and everyone here. people would go on a nightly tangent about this person or that person. if you ask me, the way things are run right now is nice in the fact that it keeps honest people honest and shuts the mouths of people with bloated opinions. as far as me being afraid goes...lets just say ive been here long enough to know the rules and agree with alot of them having put input into the wording of them. so im not afraid of being banned or this or that cuz i know the limits in which i can operate at the ja. for those who dont...push your luck and see how far you get. just means more fun for me and the others who get to watch you walk your butt right out of here. now DAM YOU GUYS GO HAVE SOME FUN OR I WILL BEAT YOU ABOUT THE HEAD AND SHOULDERS WITH MY 40 TON FUN STICK!!! |
