UPDATED: Brief server outage -DJ Sith- Jun 17 02:29am -8 comments- |

I'm sorry for the short notice, but I'll need to do some emergency physical maintenance on the web server. This will cause loss of connectivity to the web, teamspeak, radio, and mail servers for the JA. This should happen between 12AM and 6AM CST tonight. Downtime shouldn't be too long though. Again sorry about the late notice. edit: This will NOT affect the game servers or the IRC channel.  UPDATE The move is complete, and some network upgrades have been made which will hopefully make the server respond faster and get it a little more secure from general Internet nuttyness. A side effect of this was an IP address change for the server. The new DNS records for the new IP may take up to 72 hours to reach your ISP's DNS server. If you have any bookmarks to the old IP address (I know some of you oldbies still use the old IP) please update them to the domain name. Again I'm sorry for the short notice on all these changes and for having to take the whole works down. Things will settle back to normal in a few days. |

what with all the excitement over Episode III (which, in my honest opinion, ranks a close third behind Empire Strike Back and A New Hope), we forgot to mention that we turned THREE WHOLE YEARS OLD! A lot has happened since mid-May of 2002. I've graduated college, moved out to Los Angeles, and am working in the tv/film industry. DJ is getting married this weekend (BALL AND CHAIN!). Orion works for Raven Software based on the work he did for OUR mod. We've gotten great new council members. We've reorganized 3 or 4 times, each time improving the Academy and creating a new spark. We've made new friends, those friends have made new people (yes, Geeks can have wives and husbands and even make babies), and we've lost some good friends as well. Heck, we opened right when Episode 2 did, and now the Star Wars saga is complete, or so George Lucas says. I'd like to take this opportunity to say that I love this place, I consider all of you my friend, and I know we'll continue to improve as we move to this time next year (when I promise we'll remember our anniversary). VIVA LA ACADEMIA!!! |

InstaGib Day at the JA!!! Yes, yes! Saturday 21st of May is InstaGib Day. I have turned the JA CTF Server into an InstaGib Server for however long people continue to enjoy the vapourising, one-shot-killing goodness of Insta. So yes! Saturday at 3:00pm GMT we shall all meet on the CTF (Now InstaGib) Server and have a total blast! I'll be there, as will awesome people like MOTREC, ShadowSith, n00b and all the TS crowd. Come along just for kicks! Even if you have no idea what InstaGib is, come anyways! No need to download anything, just join the Server and you're good to go!!  And just to whet your InstaGibbing appetite, check out MOTREC's InstaGib 101 video. LET'S HAVE US SOME FUN!! |

The rebuilding of the JA ranks has started. I have finished working on the new trialing setup and the maps and have already trialed a few people. The ranks are no longer what they were before, they are better.  The four people I trialed have lived up to my expectations wonderfully and I am very pleased to announce that we now have our very first ranked members since the staff purge; Luke Skywalker Jaina D'Kana Jaiko D'Kana Gradius All of which now hold the rank of Jedi Master. The reason behind this is because these four individuals are the epitome of everything we want in our Staff. Active, mature, responsible, honorable and very, very skilled. They are now the architypes by which all future ranked members will be looked. The Jedi Master rank remains to be very rare and reserved only for individuals who hold a record of a very long time of great service in the JA. Well done guys, you're all awesome and I know you'll do us proud. Next on the agenda is toggling and trialing people for the Jedi Knight rank, as to resume normal trialing procedures. |

Not like anyone needs a reminder, but Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith is about to be released in theaters. Because of this I have made 2 threads in the Star Wars discussion forum. The first thread is a Spoiler Free discussion of the movie. This is so people who don't wait in line 9 hours for the first showing can get some opinions on the movie without having parts of it revealed to them. The second thread will allow everything for the people who want to discuss the movie with others who have seen it and comment on specific events. So it is a Spoilers Allowed thread. Please use these threads for their purpose and don't go making 20 more threads about what you saw in the movie. |

If you are not yet a student of the Jedi Academy and want to sign up: I will no longer process application that I feel have not been filled in the way they should be. If you want to be a part of this community, you can at least take the time to fill in the fields that tell us if you are even worth of joining the Academy. So, if you have had your application denied, or have not received a reply on it in the last couple of weeks, I suggest you sign a new one, and fill in as much fields as possible. EDIT: More of an addition/explanation: The acceptance of an application is not solely based on "filling the fields". In first instance, we compare some statistics to the records we have from ex-students. If we notice it is a (partly) match, we look at other fields, which means applications that do not have a lot of information are prone to being denied. |

Huxley has just finished setting up his game server box in New York and has informed us that they are ready to be used. All Server addresses on the Servers page have been modified to suit the new East Coast based Servers. So please update your server notes to suit. I have just been configuring the new Servers and so far, JK3 Home, JK3 Classes, JK3 Siege/CTF and JK2 Home are active and online. Have fun, guys! Weee! |

*Hangs head*...  Well guys, as many of you know, DJ has recently changed the Mail Server from Huxley's box to his own. During this time, the Mail Server has been down, therefore, none of us have been able to recieve E-Mail via our thejediacademy.net accounts (except fixtheja, this one has been working fine). The Mail Server's transit to DJ's box was completed successfully today and all administrator E-Mail accounts are now up and running again. Small problem, though - During the transition, I was required to change my mail settings from IMAP to POP3, this required me to replace my account with the Mail software I use. In doing so, the darned thing wiped my account inbox totally clean...*shakes fist*. This means all JA Radio DJ applications have gone for a walk. I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask all of you who wish to be official DJs on JA Radio to resubmit your applications to virtue@thejediacademy.net. Do not message me on IRC, MSN or the Servers about becoming a DJ, I will not pay attention to you. Applications are done via E-Mail only so that I can keep a record of applicants. If you wish to apply, please send me an E-Mail (to the aforementioned address) with the following info; Name: Your JA name Profile: Link to your JA Profile Time: The days and times which you would be available to be a DJ Genre: The type of music you will play Please do not expect a reply to your submissions, your applications will be made into the JA's official Radio schedule, you won't be getting replies from me saying things like "Okay, you can be a DJ." My apologies for the inconvenience guys. |
