Well then, we've finally got the final version of the Official JA Skinpack up on the Servers. Very special thanks to the following people: Setementor Gradius R2D2 Proximo Solitude for all their hard work in making this for us. Mad props to you guys! You can download the whole skin pack here and on the Server pages, or if you are a caveman and have a slow connection, these fabulous gents have also made it possible for you to download the pack in segments, here. The skinpack is not required to play on the JA Servers, but it is a very nice addition to have, if you want it. Have fun, guys!  |

Well my home server has tanked again and we'll be without the IRC company of the lovable JABot and brabble for a while. The server broke nice and good and it'll take me some time to get the parts together to rebuild. I'd like to share a few life lessons from my expereiences with this server crash. 1: Don't plug a laser printer in behind a UPS. Apparently they suck ginormous amounts of power when warming toner. Power suckage breaks UPS which in turn breaks sensitive equipment behind that UPS. 2: Don't plug a laser printer into the same circuit as a UPS. House no likey, especially if your house is anywhere near 50 years old. 3: Don't buy a UPS that usually retails for $800 out of the back of a van for $50. Sure it might run great for a few years, but one messup and *poof*. 4: If you run a server at home that keeps sensitive information like academy site backups, your taxes, four years worth of email, your personal domain, and your academy's IRC bots it might be best to invest in a RAID solution. Protect your stuff! So be warned! Don't buy old homes! Don't buy suspicious merchandise! Implement redundancy! I hope this lesson was as refreshing for all of you to read as it is for me to write. I'll have ye olde bots back up as soon as I can. On another note we're still receiving applications for the new article editor position. Remember you have 5 days before we stop accepting apps. Email us if you want to get your name on that thar intarweb and help out the Academy to boot! |

Attention Academy students. Well it’s been quite a while but we’re looking for people who want to be writers for the Articles. For those of you who want the opportunity to contribute to the academy in your own way this is the opportunity for you. Here are some things you need to know: We’re looking for 2-3 people to write articles Article Staff should try to write at least 1 article per month. We would like articles involving map/mod/skin reviews. Interviews with the creators would be good. Try to have Academy related articles. Activities here, interviews with staff, new and old students, whatever you think people would like. We would prefer if you don’t do editorial pieces. For instance, my article is not a good example of what you should do.  Just so you know, this is not the fast way for you to become a Knight. Don’t do this if you see it as a way to become a Knight or Trainer. It won’t disqualify you from being one, but this isn’t the quick and easy path. Your ultimate goal would be to score a Q&A with game developers in the fashion that Arcuss got the Academy with the makers of Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. If you are interested in becoming one of the article staff, please send an e-mail to fixtheja@thejediacademy.net explaining why you want to, and what you can contribute. When we get enough interested people we’ll look them over and decide on who and what way to choose the staff. If you aren’t chosen don’t be disheartened because you could be considered again in the future. We'll close applications in a week. Thanks for your interest in helping to keep the academy running! |

Oh yes! Today has been a good day, cHoSeN-oNe has released a Beta version of his new mod (JAE) to us and we are now using it on all JA Servers. We've done alot of testing with this new Mod and we have found that it works like a charm, there are new emotes, new admin commands and best of all, it plays like basejka. cHoSen-oNe was quoted to say: I finally have created something that I have wanted to do in a long time. Since so many of you have supported me through the years, I am so glad to present to you my gratitude in the only way I knew possible. With this new mod, not only will it provide great gameplay here at the academy, but you will be able to learn how it works and create your own modifications from the source itself. I thank you again for all of your support. Once again, a beta version of c1's new mod is now on all of our Game Servers. The Jedi Knight and Jedi Trainer passwords have also been changed, so if you're a staff member, please check the Server pages before logging onto the Servers. I've also made a little modification myself that should help with the feel and setting to your games of JK3 - A Lightsaber Mod. This mod enhances the look of both the Lightsaber blades and their colours to make them look much more like they are in the movies. There are also a few new effects and sounds to add to the experience. I love it. It's a very small download and combined with c1's mod, brings back that "Old Days" feeling. After downloading, simply extract the PK3 file into your Gamedata/Base folder. The Lightsaber mod is an optional mod, you do not need it to join the Servers. Download it here, or on the Server pages. Here's where the fun begins. |

By popular demand we've switched IRC chat applets to pjirc. Check out the chat page to give it a whirl. If you haven't ever been to our IRC channel you really should give it a try. We're pushing ourselvs harder to fill those much-needed JAK+ slots now. God knows we've needed them for months now. Jedi Knight Trials are still going on, in fact, a fresh batch of Jedi Knights are on the way even as I write this post. As for Jedi Trainers, well first up is 3th, he's no stranger to the ranks, the administration or teaching, so he's the first one for now. Everyone go pat him on the head and give him a cookie. More to come soon! |
