Swoop Racing Tournament

Thank you for your interest/participation in the Jedi Academy swoop racing tournament. The sign-up deadline was on Friday and I was made aware of only eight sign-ups, which is just enough for this. Unfortunately, there are no prizes.

The swoop racing tournament will take place on the (JK3) Euro Fun server on the Boonta Eve racing map (download here) and consist of a single bracket and a maximum of three rounds. There are no more rounds or brackets if you lose. Races will consist of 3 laps each around the hugely eventful land of Boonta Eve, the winner of which ultimately deciding who progresses to the next round. There is only one race; this is NOT a best of X amount of races. In the case of a tie or a draw, the race will be repeated until there is a winner.

The bracket can be viewed here.

Each round will last for one week, during which time it is the racers' responsibility to look at the bracket, find out their opponent and attempt to contact them and arrange a time to meet on the server and race. If you are unable to contact or race your opponent before the deadline and have exhausted all available methods of communication with them, please leave a message on my profile detailing your attempts.

Racers:

Shadow_Jedi
Sho Koon
Pellinore
Maher
Zodiac
Trey
Degor
Liso

All of the racers are also required to have a referee. This is because another person must be at the operating station to trigger the button which initiates the race countdown. Naturally, they will also be watching to make sure that the race is fair, there is no abuse, all rules are followed, laps are counted and the winner of the race is witnessed as they cross the finish line. Referees must also post here with results of the race (the people racing and who won/drew), a link to a demo of the race, any observations they made and any comments they like.

Referees:

(Note: If you would like to be a referee, please contact me on IRC. It doesn't matter whether you are a participant or not; you just won't be able to referee your own race.)

You are encouraged to try and post times you're going to race at so people may gather and watch, if you can. For the entertainment of those who cannot witness the event live, unless none of the people present are capable of recording a demo, it is required for somebody to record one and attempt to get as good a view of the race as possible - especially the winner as they cross the finish line. Racers can record one as well, if needed, pressuming it doesn't lag them too much. The person who records the demo is not important; the referee must provide a link to its publicly-downloadable location when posting the results. You can contact me on MSN and/or IRC if you need it uploading to the FTP.
Demos can be recorded by typing the following sequence of commands into the console:
/g_syncronousclients 1
/record NameOfTheDemo
/g_syncronousclients 0

and to stop:
/stoprecord

Rules:

1) Read and understand everything in this post; ask questions if you're unsure.

2) No shooting weapons, firing swoop lasers or clubbing with sabers; this is a race, not a swoop deathmatch. The thought occured and tempted me to allow this, but I also don't want all of these races to turn into 5-second shoot-ups.

3) No attempting to gain an unfair advantage over your opponent. You are free to find shortcuts and build yourself a legitimate advantage, but, for example, don't start before the countdown ends; be patient!

4) No cheating, bugging or abusing the map. Vehicles are a sensitive aspect of the game, so don't do anything that will make them crash the server, players or affect their ability to respawn. So far, I have not found a way to permanently disrupt the map while abusing them, but in any case, use them responsibly.

5) In the event that you and your opponent have not raced by the deadline, you must be able to prove to me that you have really tried to contact your opponent, otherwise you will both lose the tournament.

6) Listen to the referee and follow their instructions. They have been given specific guidelines and know what they are doing.

7) Read and follow all standard JA rules.

8) Have fun!

Round #1 Deadline: Monday, 15th September at 00:00 BST (aka London timezone).

Round #2 Deadline: Monday, 22nd September at 00:00 BST (aka London timezone).

Round #3 Deadline: Monday, 29th September at 00:00 BST (aka London timezone).

The tournament has already begun, so what are you wait for?!

Modified it. :)

There's now a whole losers' bracket and if the winner of the winners' bracket is still around, they can face the winner of the losers' bracket.

Since I didn't plan this and there wasn't any warning, I haven't added any deadlines or updated the thread. At least not for now.

Anybody in the losers' bracket that does not wish to race, let me know.

The rest of you have not got long. I'm on IRC if you need a referee. :)

In light of the events that occured during the two races I was a referee for, I feel that I must also add that in the event that one of you dies, you may catch up from the last lap you completed. Alternatively, if the opponent is okay with it, you can restart the race. Otherwise, you lose it altogether.

I forgot to mention that you can use the swoop lasers to blast open the doors which connect the track.
