With the news that world AIDS day is only 5 days away i decided that i would briefly search around the internet for interesting articles in an attempt to understand the horrific nature of the AIDS virus .

Just a couple small facts i managed to find:

-By 2010, it is estimated that deaths from the pandemic will rival those of the bubonic plague, which killed 93 million people.

-By the end of 2003, there were 37.8 million people living with HIV/AIDS, including 17 million women and 2.1 million children under the age of 15.

-.8 million people were newly infected with HIV in 2003, including 630,000 children.

-In 2003 alone, a total of 2.9 million people died of HIV/AIDS-related causes.

-96% of people with HIV live in the developing world, most in sub-Saharan Africa

Personally i found these figures both shocking, and unbelieveable. Through looking i also found many informal and interesting sites on the matter. But then again, what can we do? Its not like we can help develope a cure right? Most of us arnt even old enough to drive a car......well actually here are a couple ways in which you can help.

Thank you for taking the time to look at this and i wish you all the best of health and hope that you and the people you know dont have to live with the effects of the AIDS virus.

Please Take Care

Things like this really make you stop and think just how lucky you might be. Hopefully one day we will solve how to live without the likes of AIDS and cancer, they and other virus' etc. are perhaps the true enemy humanity faces rather than all the wars we have had through history.

It's good to stand still at things like this. Sometimes I whine and fight about things that are not so important in this world and afterwards i always regret it because then i think about how lucky i am with my life. I hope that I can help a lot of suffering people in this world by making their lifes more comfortable in any possible way.

There tend to be those odd, unbelievable recoveries. Some people propose that it is "will power" or prayers. Others more scientific believe that he person's body has one or a set of characteristics that fought off HIV. Hard to decide between which one is right. I've watched some shows on the Discovery Channel and Learning Channel regarding how prayers and will power stimulate normally dormant parts of the brain, all inconclusive still.

AIDS is still spreading, very sad for those who can't get any treatment whatsoever or don't even know what they're getting into.

I found this which may also be of some interest to people.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/4432564.stm

A 25 year old male from east London apparenty has been cleared of HIV with no medical intervention. Although there are chances this is a fluke, or a lab mix-up this still brings hope that someday a cure could be derived from this discovery.

Having seen first-hand people dying from AIDS, I can assure you - it is horrific in most cases in the third-world.
