Thx Virtue :) It turns out I didnt read well enough and didnt change 'saber_virtue' into 'saber_dash.' It helped, and when I put together my .pk3, my hilt looked like 3 colored lines (blue red and yellow.) I then renamed 'single_dash.sab' to 'saber_dash.sab,' and it works now w00t! My 2nd version of my hilt, 1st official version, is up & running! :D

Did you follow the part in the tutorial where you're supposed to rename your cylinder in Gmax to saber_w?

Quote:
saber_w,models/weapons2/saber_dash/saber_w.jpg

That is basically what your .skin file should look like - if you break it down, you can see what the skin file is trying to do:

saber_w - This is at the start of the .skin file, it picks out the surface (or a particular surface) of the model.

models/weapons2/saber_dash/saber_w.jpg - This part comes after the saber_w part in the .skin file, seperated by a comma. It is basically telling the game which texture to apply to the part of the model that you just picked out (saber_w).

This is why we renamed our cylinder to "saber_w" in Gmax, to give the model and all of its surfaces a name for the .skin file to look for so it knows what to apply the texture to.

So in conclusion, open your hilt model up in Gmax again, rename it to "saber_w", then export it again. All should be fine, then. :)

Thx for the help Pink, Ive got my exporter working now :)

Next problem... lol. I mannaged to export my hilt as an .md3, and created the .skin file. I opened MD3 view and opened the .md3 file. When i try to import the skin, I get an error:

'Unable to surface nam 'saber_w' in model C:/...'

I tried several pathnames in my .skin file, but none of it seems to work. Does anyone know how to deal with this?

two things: if i want to make a reversed saber, can i do it in gmax or is it really necesary to script it?

the other: at te "saber_w" name.. just if the _w charachter is relevant for the function of the blade ingame, or may i name it whatever i want as long as it appears right in md3view?

okay, three things: can one atach a new model/shape to another? like i make a saber cylinder and then attach acube to it?

The way I unwrapped it in the tutorial was simply for easy and simplicity. It's very straight forward.

You can, of course, unwrap your own hilt any way you want, it doesn't really matter if you start from the front, or the side or whatever.
It also depends on how you want it to be skinned. For the hilt in my tutorial, the way I wanted to skin it was complimented by the way I unwrapped it.

You can do your own hilt however you want to. :)

Oi, Ive encountered a little problem. Why is it important that, when I start to unwrap my hilt, I go around to its back and start with that particular face? Will I unwrap my hilt inverted if I chose another face?

My main problem is that I have 3 faces which kind of 'share' the same texture, like a line crossing all three of them for example. When it comes to skinning, its easier I think when I position these three faces next to each other. When I start with the back face, I cant position them like that, so Id have to start with another face. Will that cause problems?
