TJA Radio broadcasting! -Zdiac Grimclaw - Mar 18 09:06pm
Well, this is my first article and I wanted to make it beneficial for the academy. I know I'm a Holocorion editor, but I just couldnt resist writing an article about the radio. Yes, the academy's radio is alive! You heard me ;)

I believe reviving the radio is a fantastic idea, and should all be greatful to Laziana for that :)
Lets give him a big thanks! I interview'ed Laziana about how things are going with the radio, because I believe everybody needs to know that the radio is alive!

< Zodiac > Since when did you take over the radio?
< Laziana > I got interested in DJing on the JA radio after listening to a few of virtue's rare shows he did in 2007. It was about December that I informed myself about the technical requirements, etc. Over Christmas 2007 I held my first shows, without any talking at all. Just some songs to stream over the net. I was deathly afraid to emberass myself with talking something arkward, since English is not my mother tongue.
< Zodiac > what made you change your mind about talking?
< Laziana > the fact that the listeners - members of the academy - encouraged me. I realized that especially here in TJA nobody will point at you and laugh for trying something for the benefit of all
< Zodiac > What made you choose the current genre of the songs?
< Laziana > As musician myself (I play guitar and sing in a rock/metal band) I have my musical roots in these genres. But that's no exclusive, since my shows can vary. I also especially love to hold video game music sessions which seem pretty popular among the listeners.
< Zodiac > Do you work alone or with someone?
< Laziana > At the current state I am the only regular person to DJ. At last year's JA prom though Virtue hopped in too
< Zodiac > Do you plan on recruiting someone to help?
< Laziana > I think that the JA could benefit from more DJs. Just for the sole purpose of having more shows. On the other hand it can sometimes be very frustrating to broadcast for an hour and get maybe 1 listener who disconnects after 5 seconds. So as long as there is no fixed schedule - which I am trying to work on - it, would be hard to get good attention. The indicator on the TJA page is good, also the advertising in IRC is great. Still it does not help too much at times.
< Zodiac > What do you think would help improving the Radio activity?
< Laziana > Maybe it would already be enough to inform students - especially a lot of the new ones - that a radio exists in the first place. Also my mentioned fixed schedule might definitely help. If people know it advance WHEN the radio will be on, it would be helpful. I compare it to classes. There would be far less attention if classes are held just when a trainer is online and feels like it.
< Zodiac > Do you have any future plans for the radio? Nice song playing now btw ;)
< Laziana > I want to do some cooperative shows. Routing a Skype call or TS session into the radio and talk about TJA or RL stuff.

So turn of your mp3's and tune up and listen to TJA Radio!

This has been Zodiac with his first article, saying sorry for all the grammar mistakes :)

I have some ideas of imrooving or at least shedualizing the radio
1. Why not start recruiting a Radio staff
2. Why not recording the whole program, and broadcast it on shedueled time
3. I wonder would it be possible to change the music in Munes bar to the Radio (somehow maybe)
4. I ment the holocron, not the holocrion lol :P

Like Laziana said already - it can be frustrating when only one peak listener comes to listen to your show. so radio needs a plan first... then a recruiting process can be done. if plan is good enough it might draw more 'djs' attention.

the point in radio is not the music. we can play music from our excessive pirated music databases.
i loved interviews, dialogs between TJA members, simple messing around. music is on the last place of importance.

Lazy Anna rox indeed.

hmm good advertising :P
congrats on the first article : )

i think it would be cool if classes were connected to the radio somehow. people still visit classes so something related to them would be a good idea i think. connecting every TJA resource into one TJA feel is what we must do in order to spark some life into it.

ps. wtf is Holocorion ? :P

That's a good article with a nice topic, Zodiac. Personally, I think Virtue and Laziana hold great shows. They 're fun and entertaining - and Elvis got some attention as well. :D

Nice. It's a very interesting read. :)

I don't know that Laziana took over the radio, but certainly he is the most active one to use it of all. Virtue's shows were always awesome, but so are Laziana's and I'm glad he uses it often!

I would, however, happen to disagree about the schedules. The radio is broadcast on IRC channels, prompting working/busy or gaming IRC users to listen to it. Furthermore, it is *noticably* shown on the website when the radio is online, which usually attracts people as well. Depending on the hours you may or may not get a lot of people, but I did notice a good 8 people listening the other day and I'm not aware of any schedule!

In any case, for those wanting to be more informed about JA radio, if you go on IRC often you can join #ja-radio as well to receive relevant notifications about it.

Cooperative shows are very entertaining as well and it would be great to get some more DJs!
