FaDed, our esteemed colleague and friend, has just informed the Council that he has received his Mission call from the presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the Mormons, for those of you not in the know), and will be leaving us shortly. Here's what he has to say: "my dear friends, the time is come that i must bid you all farewell. as many of you know, i have been planning on going on a mission and today i recieved my mission call from the presidency of my church. here is a portion of what they wrote to me: Dear Elder Slade: You are hereby called to serve as a missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. You are assigned to laber in the Tonga Nuku'alofa Mission. It is anticipated that you will serve for a period of 24 months. You should report to the Missionary Training Center at Provo, Utah on Wednesday, 28 July 2004. You will prepare to preach the gospel in the Tongan language. it goes on to talk about what will be expected of me as a missionary. so yeah.. i'm going to be in Tonga for the next 2 years. knowing this, it is time for me hand in my tag and position. i came to the academy in february 2003. over the past year and half i have learned many things about myself. i have met many people and 2 of them in real life. a few of them i anticipate being friends for life. i have served amongst the JAK+ and taught many to play. i have seen and been a part of many changes that have taken place here. in short, the academy has been a huge part of my life since i joined. now, i move on to bigger and better things. this is not a sad, but happy occasion. i am excited to have the chance to serve my Lord and my God, Jesus Christ. do not fear for me for i know that he will watch over and protect me as i do his will. i will miss this place and its people dearly. May the road rise to meet you May the wind be always at your back May the sun shine warm upon your face, The rains fall soft upon your fields And until we meet again May God hold you in the hollow of His hand. Hopefully we'll still be around when you return, but even if we're not, your friends and I will be looking forward to hearing from you from the mission field. Well then...The day I has finaly come. We have some history you and me. Both being padawans of the great NofrikinfuN and both being red stancers of the "old school". Had some interesting talks in the past. Some about religion and looks on life itself. You already know me not to be religious in anyway, but also that I do not look down upon those who are. I really hope you next 2 years will be fruitful and interesting. And I do hope that you will take care of yourself and stay safe. Lastly, you better send and e-mail or something like that every once in a while. Or i will hunt you down and spank you. I'll miss having you around buddy. Best of luck on your journey. You will come back to the Academy when you're done, right?  This will be an amazing time in your life. You'll probably hear a lot of people remark how you're willing to "give up" two years of your life to do this...as if those two years are somehow not going to happen. When you return from your amazing adventures and see all the people who spent that same time working in Dilbert offices every day and staring at sitcoms every night, you'll know who really gave up two years. It makes me really sad to see you go, but it makes me so much happier to know that youre leaving to go to something like this. It takes a lot of heart and courage to leave everything you have behind for a new life of serving others. Personally, i dont think i could ever do something of that magnitude, for that i admire you. And I just know that youre going to fulfil youre duties and more. Your time here was really well spent. You were an awesome student, knight and trainer. You helped a lot of people in and out of the game. But most importantly, you were a good friend to all of us. I had the opportunity to work together with you a couple of times, and even though we had our differences, i can honestly say that it was a good experience. I had a good time and in the end everything turned out awesome. This is not a goodbye, but a see you in two years Wish you the best of luck with your mission Colin.
