Han Solo Shoots First! -Buzz - May 04 06:55am |

Yes I'm slightly exploiting the news for this, but I do think its fairly big since we're a Star Wars community. The Original Trilogy, Theatrical Releases on DVD "In response to overwhelming demand, Lucasfilm Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will release attractively priced individual two-disc releases of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Each release includes the 2004 digitally remastered version of the movie and, as bonus material, the theatrical edition of the film. That means you'll be able to enjoy Star Wars as it first appeared in 1977, Empire in 1980, and Jedi in 1983." Even though I have already bought gotten the Original Trilogy on DVD, I fully plan to buy these so I can see the movies the way I first had. Its too bad we'll have to wait until September for this and its only for a limited time at that. Still its a great demonstration in that the demands of the fans still do get listened to. |

It is refreshing to see the original available again ![]() I would love to see more Star Wars stuff, but I'd prefer them to end the Skywalker era and move to another time, perhaps during the KOTOR period or something altogether different. The show sounds like a nice departure, but they need to let this era go and develop a fresh story, its getting too cramped. -Ian _______________ Member #7625 | Since 7.6.04 The Archives |

Its about time! This whole 'putting out a new Star Wars edition every couple of years' is a little tiring. It will be refreshing to have them as I saw them as a child but buying yet another edition of Star Wars is like buying yet another Rolling Stones Greatest hits album. The content is the same, the presentation is just a little different. I never have enjoyed the enhanced versions, the half second blips of CGI add ins didn't help the story at all, but it did finance the prequels didn't it. The next piece of good news we need from Lucas is JK4. _______________ “Arguing on the internet is like competing in the Special Olympics. Even if you win, you’re still retarded.” |

One of the best ways to become filthy rich is to create a product that everyone wants. Bingo. Companies make money by producing goods and services that we want, not the things that we don't want. Also, give Lucas a little more credit. He's fabulously rich alread, and the revenues from this will not make a noticable ripple in his pool of wealth. You have to understand that he has an emotional investment in his creation--and yes, it's his; he owns it--and has very definite, if ever-changing, ideas about what it should look like. For example, the scene with Jabba in Ep IV was in the original novel (and the Marvel Comics adaptation, if anybody remembers) published in 1977, even though it wasn't in the movie, but he wasn't able to get it into the movie. In his mind the "real" SW has that scene in it, although in my opinion the story makes a hell of a lot more sense without it, not to mention I thought it was a crappy scene that was unworthy of the rest of the film. But he feels strongly about it, and to make this concession suggests to me that he really, really cares about his fans. _______________ My signature is only one line. You're welcome. |

Wooo hooo! About a year ago I bought the OT on DVD through Ebay, ripped from the old movie discs if anybody here is old enough to remember those. It's even in widescreen format. It's highly enjoyable, but unfortunately there were some limitations to digitizing movies in those days. If you've ever watched the old VHS or movie disc versions of the OT, most of the outer space scenes have a sort of a pink outline around the ships. That outline is actually there on the original film but is far too faint to be visible when projected on the big screen. Because of the way film was digitized in those days, however, it shows up quite clearly on the old VHS and movie disc versions. So as much as I love having the original version on DVD, I really look forward to the digitally remastered version with no pink clouds around the ships. Incidentally, my understanding is that when Star Wars was originally released on opening day in 1977 (my God, am I that old?!?), there were small differences in the editing in versions released in different regions. So while it's wonderful to have the original version available again, bear in mind that there's no such thing as "the" original version and never was. The only thing left is for Oliver Stone to make his own version in which Greedo is killed by an unseen third blaster off-screen. _______________ My signature is only one line. You're welcome. |
