TIT3 Team Cup CANCELLED and Singles Cup prize info -doobie - Nov 22 05:56pm

The Team Cup has been cancelled due to a severe lack of participation. In the future, if you're going to sign up for a tournament and have people invest the amount of time they've invested setting up these tournaments, make sure you're committed to actually playing. The Singles Cup is only barely having enough participation to make it worthwhile, and to be honest we're all a little frustrated by it, so that means no tournaments for a while.

Along the same lines, we've downgraded the singles cup prizes from the full size Replica FX hilts to the .45 scale ones you can find on starwars.com. This has been done because of two things: 1, the full size hilts recently went up in price to a point that we simply couldn't afford, and 2, there has been some unfair doings in the tournament that led us to decide, no matter the point, that we simply cannot stand behind our VERY generous original offer.

This is a heads up to everyone. We have a sense of honor and duty at the Academy. We have staff members who work very very hard to try and make this place as fun as possible, whether it's running tournaments, teaching classes, or just being around. When people start to abuse that hard work and abuse the code of honor, we all start feeling like we're being used. This will NOT continue. If we notice people doing things they shouldn't be doing, we will remove you from the Academy. If it becomes a widespread issue, to the point that we can't handle it... well we'll make it very clear that this is a volunteer place and we'll simply end our volunteering and go home. No one wants us to do that. There's a level of decency and respect. If you say you're going to do something, be it sign up for a class, a tournament, meet a friend, unless you have a REALLY good reason to break that promies, you should be there. Otherwise you're just pissing all over your friends here. It's not about committing your life to the Academy. It's about stepping up and doing your part to keep us great and to keep trust amongst the students. I expect better out of you all.

No...and I'm sure there could be trials or agreements or just something. This group lets ANYONE in and that can and will cause problems...

I disagree. I have been reading this thread develop over the last day or two and I think you've all lost touch with reallity.

First off, while it is disappointing that the team cup got cancelled, and in the end unavoidable, you should look at the circumstances. You have 10 teams with people from Europe, America and Australia. This stretches it out over quite a lot of timezones. Now I'm the kind of person who spends maybe 6 hours a day here, which is probably too much. But a lot of players are younger than I am, and are only allowed to play for about 1 hour a day. Now to have the TFFAs you need to get 6 people all on a server at the same time. Say 1 player can only be on from 8PM to 9PM their time. Ok so we all work around him/her. But wait, another player can also only be on between 8PM and 9PM their time, and they live 6 TZs away. Oh well, can't do it that nite. Another person can't be on the next day. Can you see that in reallity getting 6 specific people all on a server at one time is no easy feat? Look I'm sorry that you feel your efforts have been wasted, but from the start did you not see how difficult it would be? I don't think you have much right to 'go to town' on the people who at least tryed to participate, which was everyone that signed up.

As for you people who say 'it's sad to see what is happening to the academy' and 'oh boo hoo JA is no good, and noone plays JO anymore :('. When was the last time you were on the servers? When was the last time you signed up for a tourney? Or came on a field trip to TFFA on a pub server? When was the last time you even stopped into IRC to say hello? Heck, I see you posting about how our community is going down the drain all the time, but do you ever participate in it? In what our community was all about in the first place? Get in there, play the game with us, go to a class or two, hang around with your fellow member! Just quit your whinging. Maybe things are different. But the academy is going as strong as ever, and if you were a part of that you would see.

just to reiterate what 3th said, this is an incident, not a state of the nation. the academy as a whole is doing well, but i just wanted to make sure we keep doing well. i agree with ozz to an extent in that we made the mistake of not factoring in time zones... but then again everyone else should have factored in time zones when they signed up. it's not so much the fact that people made it and told us they couldn't... that's fine, and i'm honestly happy people told us. it's the people who signed up and made no effort whatsoever, which happened A LOT.

this place is awesome... i just want to keep it awesome and whenever possible make it awesomer.

Well, well, well. It has come to this. I've been with the JA for almost a year now(damn it's been that long). I have seen some pretty bad stuff, but alot of good stuff. Lackey introduced me to one of the most highly regarded members of the JA, Motrec.

He showed me around, taught me some stuff, and told me just to have fun.(He's still trying to get me to learn). I was then introduced to TeamSpeak. For those of you who have not gotten on TS, it shows how much of a family we really are. I know this sounds mushy and stuff, but if n00b, Motrec, Gradius, or any of the guys and gals from TS had a problem and needed me to come to where they are and help, I would drop everything I was doing and go. My job, everything. I didn't have alot of friends until I joined up. Friends and family are more important than anything in this world.

I signed up for the tournament, but was unable to make my match with Squibit(sorry) due to other happenings. I did ask Linlei to tell Motrec or Gradius to tell him that I might not be able to make it. Even when I was 90 miles away from my computer, I still thought to tell someone.

Moby, I feel the same way, DISGUSTED. I don't know what you guys think of me, and if you ask Lackey or Motrec, they'll tell you that I really don't care what you think of me. I am very blunt and it's gotten me in trouble over the years, but it's the only way I know how to be, true.

This place is a great place and does not deserve the abuse it has received lately. If I had my way, there would be a massacre of members. Some people just need to get their head out of their hind quarters and act like Jedi(not Anakin/Vader of course).

If this place is a place of honor and intergrity, which was the first thing Lackey taught me here, then we must start treating it as such.

I expect more from every member, new and old. If there is anything I can do, let me know Doobie. I am here to help. Not saying the we can't have fun, hell that's our main goal here, but start respecting the Council and the time they have spent on this place.

May the Force be with us all, and long live the JA.

Hmm, these posts regarding lack of honor/respect/etc. appear more and more often :/. I think I'll throw in a few words myself.
Even though I've become an idler of this place, I still check the site once in a while. It's not easy to say something without seeing the whole picture, but my words would proabaly follow the same line as OcarinaLink's. well said, Link :]

Like he said, this place is more like a family to me than "just a place"; it is not fun to watch it lose strength due to changes made since the JA was released (changes that had to be done, no doubt). Good thing is, there are still those who care enough about this issue to make a point out of it! I don't believe the JA will ever cease to exist, though this post kinda woke me up. It's got to be an enjoying environment for both students and staff if it's to work the way it did, and best way to make that happen is contributing with just that little extra; only you can create a good environment on the servers :). Do it!

I'm sorry for rambling down this stuff, which has probably been said before. Guess I just hope for many more years for the JA's part, that as long as there is a JK community, there is the JA:

wow...this just goes to show you how much time changes things...

yeah, this is old Linkie, you guys may not know me much (Bail you might remember me:)), but I just thought I'd check in on the ol' Academy.

When i read this post on the news, it made me sad. Sad that the Academy's students have reached this point in our history. I remember the first Thanksgiving tourney last year, as well. It was one hell of a tourney too, I remember losing to Luke Skywalker, I believe. Very close battle, too. And to see this post, and have the venerable doobie (which I am glad to see, still volunteering his good time to manage this academy) complain about the lack of honor and good word in the academy over the majority of the people not holding up to their word in the tourney...I feel a little concerned as well.

Now I know that I might be out of line, having not hung around much and contributed as much as the majority of you guys have, but I feel that my point of view has some pertinence here. I've been with the Academy since JKII, through the conversion, through Vlad's death(rest in peace, friend), and through the arguments of JKII vs JA. And frankly, I think it's time for change. I don't know what kind of change, but something. Whether the Council has to be more hard-ass, or whether they stick with one game and drop the other, or whatever. I'm saying that the direction that the Academy is headed in is towards indifference, in which people just don't care anymore about the community.

The last time I checked in, more and more Knights were joining the ranks, and the feeling of unity was fresh off of our rememberance of Vlad. Is the Academy taking a step back? Is apathy starting to grow now, instead of comradarie? For the Academy's sake, and especially for people like massadoobie, who give up their time and work just to take care of the Academy, the people who can get involved need to get involved. It doesn't matter what game you play, just support the academy as a whole. whether spreading the word, dropping by to say hi, making friends, or simply just being honest to the Council and saying you can't make it or you don't have time...it's hell of a lot better than using the Academy as a small diversion. If this was a small diversion to me, I would have asked the Council to delete my user name, and kept going with my life, figuring I don't have time. If you can understand the reason why I am posting this, than maybe you can understand why this Academy deserves so much. It's more than an online community; it's a family, whether you want to think of it like that or not. These guys deserve the best we can give to this family. I may be wrong, but it sure is a hell of a lot better than lying to my friends online.

kreep... we had enough teams to run both tournaments... but out of 10 teams i think maybe 2 matches were played in the team cup, possibly three... that's out of, if my addition is right, a possible 10 matches that we set up. that just sucks percentage-wise

i'm not even going to get into the jk2/jk3 argument... we still support both games...

If people signed up for the tourney but simply did not participate, then yes I agree that is damn out of order.

But if simply not enough people showed up, you can't hold that against anyone. Some people simply might not want to compete. I may be out of line here, but I think everyone will agree that the academy is no where near what it was, there just seems to be less enthusiasm(sp?).

Is it cos JA was released and replaced JKII? I dunno, I'm just saying that things have changed and you can't expect things to be like they were.

Anyway rock on doobie, fight the power.
