I know the Academy seems pretty much dead right now, but I'd like to let everyone know that we're not dead, just getting reorganized after the fiasco with the server. I'm still working on getting our email addresses reinstated, but DJ and I are both in the process of returning to college (with me travelling 1800 miles to get there), so we've both been busy with that. I promise, however, that once we both get settled again we'll get classes going again, we'll get on top of the applications a bit more, and everything will run a bit smoother (or is it more smooth? screw school)... Thanks a ton for your patience though |

I'd like to take the opportunity to apologiZe for my inactivity as well. I think I'm about settled into college and my new job, so I can once again budget time for the Academy. Site things are bieng worked on & We'll be getting a new server soon. Stay tuned!
Here comes a rant. Ok.. so I'm a telecomm layoff going back to college so I can finally earn the ol' diploma that will find me a nicer job. I'm taking a few freshman courses over again since I dont remember ANY math, etc.. My Comp Sci I class is 1.8% female, 40% male & 60% fat asian guys with spiky parted hair and Linux shirts who already know every thing. This majority likes to snicker and gab about everything the professor says about an INTRODUCTORY class. Grr. I'm sure they could have placed out of the class, but they failed the "dont be annoying in class" part of the exam. I know this is a generality & generalities are bad, but this is my observation & my rant so .
Working right out of high school your peers are much different in the workforce than in college. It's been my experience that the working class as opposed to student class are much more down to earth. They live paycheck to paycheck in crummy apartment buildings & survive. They have fun & stuff, but they know they have priorities. Students on the other hand (remember this is my observation) for the most part get their free room and board & can never get used to living away from the nest. Little things like laundry, walking out of the house, brushing your teeth, waking up before 5pm, shaving once a month, and cleaning their room confuse and frighten them. They do have a sense of fashion though. You can ALWAYS spot the freshman because he or she will have their hair done up nice with lots of products to make sure that an act of God cannot move it, wear the latest fashions like Ralph Lauren & The Armani Exchange* & they'll have their shirts tucked in & looking nice & wear the visors upside down and backwards. The seniors look completely different. After some time the student will adapt to its new surroundings, but they can never get it quite right. Men will grow the most godawful scratchiest, nappy, horrid, fly collecting beards & start listening to Phish. Women for the most part are much better than the men, but a fe of them will grow scratchy beards & start listening to Phish & play an inadornate amount of discgolf. They live without the necessary "real life" experience necessary to be a human. We need mandatory apprenticeships before college. Rant off. Whew. _______________ My car is made of Nerf. |
