Security Alert!!!! -cHoSeN oNe - May 20 06:17pm

Have you downloaded applications such as Kazaa? If you have, chances are its running spyware.

Here is a little article on it from PC Magazine

What can you do about it?

Get Spybot now!!!

Totally free, it scans your system and gets rid of those memory eating, cookie reading, spyware. I scanned my system this morning and cleaned a lot of it off...This is a must download if you want to keep your network and PC safe.

I was going to original post it in the forums, but I don't think it would have received enough attention as it deserves. Besides, we have to keep safe from people hacking into the Matrix.

The Matrix? The Matrix is everywhere. It is all around us. Even now in this very room. You can see it when you look out your window. Or when you turn on your television. You can feel it when you go to work. When you go to Church. When you pay your taxes. It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth.

Hey, I've tried that out, haven't found many problems.

Those problems that are there, if I remove them, the program doesn't like me very much.

Solution? I have a purchased copy of ZoneAlarm Pro. I use it to keep spyware from accessing the web, and works decently at that as well. So the spyware is there, it just can't connect to the internet. Tricky, but you can get around spyware.

Then again, if all you guys stopped the spyware, how the hell are we going to figure out the habits of teenage Star Wars fans? Do you know how valuable that information is? Gah! This is a matter of preserving national security while maintaining the national interests! :P

Heh. But really, just find whatever combo works for you. I use ZoneAlarm, check things with AdAware every so often, and I have some purchased McAfee stuff to help out too. If you're going to sniff out spyware, use more than one program. They will all miss something. I use a registry cleaner also, to make sure that the program is entirely removed. But whatever works for you.

Well i just stick to my old trusty ad-aware and Edonkey. I never had any problem with spyware, since i avoid the normal Kazaa client and use Kazaa lite and non M$ products like Opera or Open Office.

Ad-aware gets rid of a majority of the spyware that kazza installs with. One of the programs is called brilliant digital. Here's a link how to get rid of most of it http://news.com.com/2100-1023-875274.html It did end up leaving a few extra files that ad-aware pulled off for me. That cydoor is also removable by ad-aware. It does come back though and you'll probably end up deleting it the next time it runs again.

Aeth is right, Kazaa Lite solves the problem in its root. If you never download the wrong Kazaa, you won't have to solve the spyware problem.

Yeah, I stopped doin' that peer-to-peer junk a while back. Kazaa runs a background program in your registry called "cydoor". This allows all kinds of junk to filter in. Now, if you want to keep Kazaa you can't delete cydoor from your registry. My advice is to go legit. In the end you'll feel better. Remember that if you uninstall Kazaa it will keep that cydoor entry in your registry (bastards! ). But if you want Kazaa make a back up of your registry first and THEN install it. That way if you ever want to get rid of it all you have to do is uninstall and then restore your backed up registry. Just a 'lil bit of my advice. Happy copyright frauding!! :D
