We have a winner! -doobie- Dec 08 08:19pm -28 comments-
Ladies and gentlemen, the Thanksgiving Invitational Tournament 2 has ended, and we have a winner. In a hard fought (if not at times boring... drain vs. drain takes forever), D@RtHM@UL has defeated YinYang to be crowned champion of the TIT2! He won the no-force round by a score of 4-3 (and all 7 battles were magnificent), and won the full-force round by a score of 4-2 (although the second match lasted so long that I had to ban the use of drain). For the record, D@RtH chose the Knights of the Old Republic (PC version) as his prize, while YinYang chose Devil May Cry 2 for her cousin for Christmas (how nice!). Congratulations to both of you, and to everyone who fought in the tournament! Demos will be up shortly.

I'd also like to public congratulate FaDed and skyler_ on a jorb well done. Both of them stepped up and made sure this tournament ran the way it was supposed to run, and without them the tournament would have been a failure. Thanks guys!

JamesF1 sent me this trailer for a movie that he and Brother Kow have been working on. IMO, this is a pretty cool trailer, I'm interested to see how it turns out. Best of luck finishing the film guys!

EDIT: Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that you need the DivX codec to watch it. Plus you should have it anyway, it r0x0r5!

I've given the ok for JATs and JAKs to start posting classes again, so start checking the classes link to the left regularly for new classes to be added! And don't forget, this is a school, so get to class or you get a dunce cap and a seat in the corner!

It's that time again... -doobie- Dec 04 02:31am -34 comments-
Yep, time for a State of the Academy address! I'll try to keep it short, I promise :)

Right now is a tough time for the JA. JK:JA has been a struggle for a lot of us to accept, we've have oldbies leaving left and right, and a lot of people are unhappy with a lot of things. But we're going to fix all that! And here's how:

JATs and JAKs are currently in process of being certified to teach JK:JA. Every JAK/T/C who wishes to teach JK:JA has to go through this trial. The way this is being done is by having them go through the JAK (aka "skill") trial to make sure their skills are where they should be. This trial will debut shortly. Those JATs who wish to only teach JK2 are still allowed to of course (although we want to make sure there is still a demand, so go here and fill out the poll please. We need as many votes as we can get!). We are also in the process of promoting new JATs for both JK2 and JK:JA. These promotions will be based on a new (for JK:JA at least) JAT (or "spirit/teaching") trial, based on classes taught, attitude, activity, and reputation. Along with these promotions we will be clearing out inactive JATs and JAKs from the lists.

In terms of classes, shortly we will be clearing the entire list of classes. This is done to both clear out classes that are no longer taught and to give JATs and JAKs a chance to reexamine which classes they want to teach and give students a chance to see which classes are actually taught. This will be a temporary thing, but classes will be done for a couple days (we’ll announce when in advance).

I would now like to announce a new program, the “Student Nomination Program”. This program, is designed to bring talent and potential JAKs to our attention that we may miss, as well as to give more of a voice to the student body. How it works is that students will be encouraged to post a name that they feel is Knight-quality. This will allow us to keep an eye on these people and see if they really will fit as knights. It is important to note that this is a suggestion box. We are not obligated to trial or consider any name posted, although we of course will take a look at people and find which ones deserve the promotion. And please, don’t spam this thread and don’t try to suck up or nominate yourself. Neither of those tactics work J

Finally, I’d like to address two things. First, a few people have come to be with problems about how FaDed’s trial was handled. I understand these concerns and what you all to know that FaDed fully deserves his promotion (almost everyone sees that), that he was in line to be trialed, that he impressed the hell out of DJ and I in his trial, and that he will be a great JAT. As for the problems with HOW it was conducted, yes it was unorthodox, yes it stepped on some toes, and yes in some ways it wasn’t a good idea. But it did what we intended for it to do. It got people passionate about the JA again. It sparked discussion, debate, and ideas, and I for one love it. One of the current problems with the JA is that people seem to be giving up on it, leaving it for dead and claiming “it was better in the old days”. Well yes, the old days were great, but the new days can be great as well. We just need to get back to what we stand for. Training to become better players is only one part of it; we need to focus on training to become better people. Respect, friendship, brotherhood, and fun, those are the things that drive the JA, not trials and discipline. We need to remember that and rededicate ourselves to enjoying coming to the JA and playing with our friends. Even if you may think the games themselves are getting old, as a lot of us do with JK2, it’s the camaraderie that keeps us here.

Second, I would like to apologize for my inactivity and the inactivity of my fellow JACs. A lot of you have heard this all before, but RL comes first, and it just so happens that all 5 of us got really busy at the same time. But my semester is coming to a close, and my next one should be relatively light, and I have had a fire lit underneath me in the last few days, so I’m making you this promise. I will be around more, actually playing on servers (GASP!), talking on IRC more, and being more responsive to students. As the leader, it is my responsibility to set the tone of the organization, and my inactivity has indirectly led people to think it’s ok to be slackers. I should be leading by example, and I’ve done a poor job of that. But that’s all changing. I’m going to rededicate myself to the JA, and I want you all to do so as well. The JA may seem like it’s dying, but all it really needs is a swift kick in the pants, some hard work, and we can have this place going better than ever! VIVA LA REVOLUCION!

Tat's right, JA Reloaded for Win32 will be out tomorrow. Followed by both a Linux version and Win32 Installer version by the end of the weekend. I want to thank all of you for being patient with my "sort of" absense while I prepared the mod. There are a few changes that have been made from its predecessors but they are better ones. Good Day!
