the_academy_v3 - Released! -Virtue- Mar 05 10:44pm -21 comments-
Well guys, it's finally done.

Sorry it took so long - the official release of the map is finally here. :)

Get it here.

Here's hoping you all like it and that it will give you lots of fun times and treaured memories. :)

And after a very long wait... -Virtue- Mar 01 06:20pm -68 comments-
First off, I'd just like to thank everyone who came to the Prom and helped us make it a totally fantastic evening (twice). The servers were totally packed! JK3 Home got overloaded and the party spilled over to JK3 Classes - it was awesome. :D

Big love and thank you to SilkMonkey for helping to organise the event and for building this year's prom map. <3

Huge thank you also to our JA Radio DJs who made this year's prom what it was! - Zeke, SilkMonkey and Gregwarro.
You guys rock our socks!

As some of you may or may not know, we had a pretty productive JAK+ meeting last Saturday, just before the prom and there are a few changes in store for the JA. One of the most noticable will be how Classes are taught and run.
Expect an update sometime next week on exactly what's going on. :)

Now, for the next announcement - seeing as we seem to be doing things that haven't been done in years and having alot of fun with them, I may aswell let you guys know that I've finished v3. :D

It's going to be released this Saturday (3rd March) at around 8:00pm GMT.
We'll all meet in IRC again while I get the Servers and links set up and I'll broadcast the download link in there first, then we'll all head on over to whatever Server we like and check it out. :D

Thank you all for your patience while I've been building it, I really appreciate it... I really hope it lives up to the hype... I'm actually pretty nervous about releasing it. :(

Ah well... VIVA LA ACADEMIA!!

Radio Reminder -Virtue- Feb 23 03:31pm -3 comments-
Just to let you guys know that the prom is tomorrow evening and we only have two DJs for the entire event (myself included).
In order to maximise the length and fun of the prom, it's important that we have more to carry us through, as myself and the other DJ will eventually tire out. :P

So once again, if any member of the JA wishes to DJ at the prom, please read the requirements on this thread (barring the activity requirement for this event), and contact me ASAP.

We only have a short amount of time to do preparations, so please apply now.

No DJs, No decent prom. :(

Prom 2007 - JA Radio Stress Test -Virtue- Feb 19 04:41pm -10 comments-
Okay guys, as you know, the prom music is all going to be done via DJs and JA Radio this year, so that means for the first time in ages, we'll have ALOT of people connected to JA Radio whilst being on the Servers at the same time.

I know it's really short notice, but I want to do a stress-test of JA Radio when I get home from work, just to make sure we dont' have any problems on Saturday night.

So please, I want to ask as many of you as humanly possible to connect to JA Radio today(/tonight) at 8:00pm GMT - I'll do a show, I'll get one or two co-hosts (maybe you :P) to talk with me, I'll play music that you request and I'll host some TeamSpeak competitions like I did a few weeks ago (all of you that were there for that found it absolutely hilarious and have asked for me to do it again, so I see this as an ample excuse).

I'll also be hosting some small server tourney/competitions to test Radio/Server stability (Like I did when Ven was my co-host a while back).

It's quite important that we get this stress test done if we want the prom to go smoothly, the last thing we want is to launch the prom on Saturday and end up not having any music... that would really suck.

So please, PLEASE get connected tonight and listen/participate for a while, you'd be helping me and everyone else involved in making the prom a really fun event for you all greatly.

Thank you all, you rule! :D :D

The Jedi Academy Presents: Prom 2007! -Virtue- Feb 18 12:57pm -27 comments-
Wow, it seems like a really long time since I've made a news post with the word "Prom" in the title... and it has been. The last one was in 2004!

But yes, we've (finally) managed to get around to finilising plans for a prom this year!
As usual, good 'ol SilkMonkey has got most of it organised and has even built this year's prom map (Wooo!!).

So here it is:

This year's prom will be held on Saturday, 24th February - 2007 at 9:00pm GMT. (Yes, that's in one week!) And will end at around midnight GMT, Monday morning, so you have all weekend to get there!
As is custom with new maps/events etc. we'll all gather in the main #jedi-academy channel in IRC and the link to download the map will be first broadcast in there before making it here in the news.

Now, the difference between this prom and any other prom we've had before is that the map will not include any music at all... nope. This year, we're going to do it all via JA Radio! :D
That means we'll get a vast variety of music to listen to while we party down on the Servers. :P

So I'd like to take this opportunity to direct your attention to this thread. We need DJs!
If you'd like to be a DJ for the prom, use that thread to get your applications to me ASAP!!
(Please, we really need DJs :))
If you fancy your hand at being a DJ but don't feel confident that you know what to do, don't worry, you will be trained in the use of broadcasting software and be given a test run before the prom.

Please, PLEASE try to make the effort to be there, it'd be a great excuse to boost activity for a while. And all that is required of you is to download a (very small file sized) map, tune into JA Radio, jump onto the servers and have alot of fun! :D

And if that wasn't enough to turn your heads - the_academy_v3 will be released the week after. :)

WOOOOOOO!!!!!

PARTEH!!!!

Happy Valentine's Day -Buzz- Feb 15 01:31am -8 comments-
Have a Happy Valentine's Day everyone. Hope those of you who have someone special have had a great day or will have one with them. Flowers, candies, stuffed animals, and jewelry to all.

Oh and if you decide that no one should have a happy day just because you don't, you will feel the special love only I can give.

Some help needed... -doobie- Feb 14 02:59am -12 comments-
Recently, for reasons necessary in order to keep his sanity and avoid 70-hour work weeks, our trusty Chief Technology and Nachos Officer (CTNO) DJ_Sith gave his notice to his job... that as a benefit has been hosting our website and servers. Unfortunately that means that we don't have free access to these services (or in techie nerd terms we won't have the perks of DJ working for a large datacenter, namely control over DNS zones and a free colocation. This means we're going to move web servers again and we're gonna have to pay for it. Since the servers run on the same box as DJ's personal website and mail, he's generously offering to "take the brunt of the cost", but we certainly have no interest in him taking the entire cost himself. The Council and are plan on donating money as we can based on our respective incomes, and our JA paypal account has some money in it that we can use as well, but we could use your help.

Please, if you can, visit this link and donate whatever you can to the Academy. This most certainly is NOT required, and donating or not donating will not impact your standing the JA at all, but it will help us keep this place running for as long as it's wanted (plus, I hear of a new Star Wars game coming out which looks pretty fancy and, while it's a console game, could mean more PC games are on the way... hmmmm). So please, help us out! Every little bit helps, and, assuming I set up the account correctly, we can accept both bank account transfers and credit card transfers.

Thanks and VIVA LA ACADEMIA!!!

Virtue's New Deputy -Virtue- Jan 24 11:36am -15 comments-
Hi guys!

I'm pleased to announce that I have a new deputy! :D
Yes, yes. Ever since I became a JAK (yes... a JAK) here at the JA, I've managed to make myself extremely busy, lol. Be it admin stuff, mapping, organising stuff or whatever, I've always had alot on my plate - I decided recently that it'd be a good idea if I had some idiot to offload some of this stuff to... so I employed a deputy.

I'd like to introduce Kaelis Belouve as my new deputy. Kaelis will now be to me what Hardwired is to Buzz, he will help me handle public relations, organise events and basically take some of the load off of me so that I can focus on things like v3 and get them done much, MUCH faster. :D

Welcome to the big boys club, Kaelis!
Very pleased to have you. :D

Now get to work!!!! :P
