~Va'kion Well, I can't tell you outright the exact reasons why George settled on those colours originally. However, I can tell you that Green was only introduced in "Return.." because it stood out better than blue did against Tatooine's sky shots. In particular the scene where Luke and the gang escape (and ultimately kill) Jabba. In early shots and theatrical posters for "Return..." Luke's lightsaber was still blue but after editing the posters were updated. My guess would be that George wanted a stark contrast between the evil and good characters. The colour Red often signifies negative emotions like anger and hatred, virtues often attributed to the Sith. Whereas blue and green represent innocence and peace.
