What would happen if you put a mirror in the lightsaber beam? being light it would reflect...correct?

hmm, so our general opinion is that a lightsaber is more an energy blade than a light blade?

And light can cut...lasers are 100% pure light on steroids and they're used in all sorts of industries to cut and weld metal :)

I still think a mirror would reflect maybe the visible part of the laser's spectrum...perhaps it's the invisible spectrum that hurts? and I agree that mirrors don't reflect all the light, but that only means that the reflected part of the blade isn't as strong as the first part.

So why do sabers deactivate themselves in water? :D

I think the beam is energy, and that light is something that is given off on the side - just like heat in many reactions. The mirror would be destroyed just like anything else. Also note that mirrors do not reflect all wavelengths of light. And for visable light, mirrors do not reflect 100% of the light. If you shine a laser though multible mirros, the amplitude decreases.

P.S. - Avoid engineering physics as much as you can cause girls aren't turned on by it, lol!

hear is my 1 pieces just a thought. ok one thing how could you put a mirror in between the light saber because if you could do that then you could you have saber locks, they would go right through each other, and you could have no fighting and it wouldn't hurt, just wondering.

I didn't say there wasn't light energy coming from it, in fact I said the complete opposite. :P

Well, we're thinking out of the real life physics here, but still, I'm pretty sure I've got this right;

A lightsabre beam is light energy converted into pure energy. It eminates light, heat and sound, which happens during a lot of (or all) energy transters. This doesn't mean however, that it is composed of any of these. And if it was light energy, it would be much longer than it actually is.

So basically, because it doesn't even have a smidgen of light energy in it, a mirror wouldn't affect it.

Actually a lightsaber doesn't generate heat on its own. The wielder would have burnt hands if that were the case. Heat is only generated when the blade comes into contact with an object.

Actually, two points here:
1) He wouldn't necessarily burn his hands, but... I read a official SW book (like the encyclopedia) and it said there indeed was no heat from it.
2) In that first quote: There sure is light energy coming from it! Just look at it! You see it?! That is what light is. Visible energy.

A lightsaber's ultimate weekness WOULD NOT be a mirror, it would be pie, The saber wouldn't be touching the pie because the jedi/sith doesn't want to hurt pie cause it is really good, I mean, would YOU cut a perfectly good pie just sitting there with YOUR lightsaber?

Speaking of the databank, wouldn't it be cool if Virtue or someone else with his kind of knowledge wrote an article for the Holocon about saber physics?

The energy transfer gives out light. Anyways it says so on StarWars Databank :P

maybe reflect for a fraction of a second causing a scatter of sparks or a big flash as the balde tries to go back through itself (like a saber clash). and then it would melt through the mirror imo

Nice idea - a bit impractical though :P

It is not merely light, it is pure energy. And because it is almost 100% energy it will destroy the mirror. The energy in the blade is too intense to be turned back inside, the resistance from the previous matter would prevent such a thing. The saber would be pushed back instead of a part of the saber mirroring. Hope that answered it.

For the sake of my fingers I sincerely hope a mirror isn't its weakness...just think about how many poor saps over the thousands of years killed by a saber could have easily out done the Jedi...sheesh:(

Nope...check databank of Star Wars itself, the beam is being bend by a egatively charged high energy flux aperture(wth that may bee) and that is limiting its range, and no mirror can stop that energy.....
