No no no, to answer a common mis conception a lightsaber blade IS NOT HOT!! it gives off no heat whatsoever. When a lightsaber blade makes contact with an object, the energy from the blade is displaced through the object, thus causing it to appear to burn or melt. Therefore A lightsaber only uses power once it connects and transfers enrgy to another object, simply having it on uses up no energy as a lightsaber blade works in a loop As for lasers only beeing seen through fog and smoke java, nope. You're thinking red lasers, but shine a green laser and you can see it clear as day in normal sunlight. It does emmit residual light, but it is actually, a rotating energy vortex. _______________ Once I heard about something called "real life". It's a lightsaber. That doesn't mean it's "made" of light, more that it emits light. What is it made of? I don't think GL ever goes into depth on this matter, mainly because it's not important. If some EU source does, thats nice, but it's hardly a SW fact. And I hardly think real world physics matters in a Star Wars universe. It's more fantasy than sci-fi. I Don't see Lightsabers as lasers at all. Although laser harness the energy from light, it is not solid energy. One laser beam can pass thru another. No mater how much you focus the beam of a laser, it cannot take solid shape. It's like saying that the blades could be made of fire. Fire is heat, can it be harnessed into a solid beam? It is still just light. The blades of Lights sabers clash, idicating solid mass. Ok, without reading the whole thread (I apologize but I'm currently at work ), all I can say is that the only material able to stop a lightsaber is cortosis, anything else would be destroyed, apparently without any specific problem for the light blade. As far as physics theories go, lightsabers are more likely to be plasma blades than light blades. Ie they're hot like hell and anything passing by is burnt.
