How bad has the JA gotten?

Hey guys I was just reading Exar's goodbye speech and I noticed that aside from being stripped of his LK position, he doesn't like the way the Academy has turned out. I was just curious, how different is it now then from when Exar had first joined? How bad has it really gotten, if at all?

Hmm, Doobie, I agree with you there to an extent. But, personally, I - for whatever reason, and I'm not going into it now - don't find the 'modern' JA as much fun as the 'oldbie' JA. Of course there are people that feel differently and people who agree, but whatever, we're here now and we do have to either make the best of it - or leave. Those are the only options :) And I'm trying to make the best of it.

i think the biggest change is that now I've found that I can get away with whacking people upside the head (*me whacks Aratan upside the head*) and kicking people in the shins (*me kicks Orion in the shins*)!

But seriously... things evolve. To people who think the "old" JA was better... I love the old JA, the intimacy, comraderie, and closeness we all had, and of course I still love the Lost Temple (which is now quite literally lost... Dom lost the source files in a computer meltdown a while back). But we're really not all that different, you're just grizzled old veterans. The newness and thrill has worn off, I'm guessing, and plus we all have a tendency to remember things at the extremes, either better or worse than they really are. But I have a feeling we're about to enter a new golden age... it's called summer. That's when everyone's free from school, the servers and IRC are filled with people, and something fun and crazy happens every day. If you don't like the game itself... well, I personally don't get that much enjoyment out of playing either game, but I stick around because I know for a fact that there is absolutely NO better place on the internet, besides maybe the CEO of the moneypit known as Google :D

Actually no, because I remember the time when Jacen first popped onto the scene :)

And yes, I do remember when there were no forums :)

James, you contradicted yourself there. First, you say that Jacen is no oldbie. Then you say you've only joined a few weeks after Exar. If that's true, Jacen might have joined a few weeks after you as well.

And it's ridiculous to not look at profile number. They give a perfectly clear indication of when you joined and how long you've therefore been with the Academy. Unless, as you say, you've re-registered. I don't see a reason why you would want to do that, though.

Does anyone remember the time there were no forums? :o

Who says this was my original account? And don't take profile numbers as an indication, I joined only a few weeks (max) after Exar, and I'm this whole bunch further down the numbers than him :)

And I'm not getting into an arguement or a debate - whatever.

Why does it suck? I think it's an honour for us (and especially DOM/Virtue) that their maps are so widely played :)

That sucks. The maps we use here should be only be used here, its one of the things In my opinion that makes the Academy great

I don't know what you mean with influence, but yeah our map is and always have been rather popular in the JK world, both the JKII Maps by DOM and the JK:JA one by Virtue are used on a lot of servers :)

Sometimes I wonder how many people prefer JK2 to JK3 because they were expecting JK3 to *look* different.
I know I was suprised when I found JK3 looked and almost played exactly the same.
It just makes me wonder if people don't like JK3 as much because of their mindset.

But anyway...back on the post's original topic...
Why is it different from these early days? Sure we've got a lot more people, but what has changed?

Well said Master Lew. What i wanted to say is, this Place, The Academy, is something more than just a server and some classes where we learn how to play JKA, we make friends here, Let's take an example, MonkaiMan, i didnt knew him before i joined the academy, after i got to know him, he is the coolest person i ever meet, not only MonkaiMan tho its just an example. Another is KaTaN. Is such a cool guy, he can make laugh when i am down and im glad to know him, another one xAnAtOs and Nimravus or kessler. So many many poeple that can make me smile when im down and bored. I was really thinking of giving up on playing online games, but i found this, went to see how it was, and look at me, i'm *addicted* to this place lol.
Anyway, My point here is, this is much more than just an Academy, is a place where you make friends and have fun online.

Life is what you make it. If you want it to be fun it will be fun. If you don’t, it won’t. A lot of you complain about how things have changed for the worst. That is just your perception. I think the gaming has improved in JK:JA. There are a lot more things you can learn and do with the game. Life goes on and things change. You can embrace change and have fun or escape to the past and miss all the new experiences of the here and now. The choice is yours to make. I for one chose to have fun with the game and where the future leads me and this Academy. You are never to old to enjoy life or this game.:D

When this place shuts down, alot and i mean ALOT of poeple are going to be really sad! I can speak by myself, but im positive that alot of ppl in here will be aswell. This is the best place ever to play online games, we talk, we have fun, we discuss important things of our lifes etc etc, but we have a real life, and nothing can take it from our minds, but this Academy will be forever held on our hearts and always reminded of the coolest place to play some Jedi Knight and have a laugh with friends, in our lifes, doesnt mather how old we get, we will always remind the Academy. Thats a fact!

TJA of JK2 and TJA of JA are very different...

It's hard 2 just say simpel why it's hard, but i think some reasons are...

the map (they are both gr8, but the map in JK2 was more up and personal, much more contact with every1).

the game (yes, even the game itself can change a clan/community etc.)

and most important... the members (i'm not saying the members of the academy in JK2 were nicer or something, but a lot of new people are here and a lot of oldie's have left, so yes there is a difference)
