Anger?

Hiya, new here. I always wondered about this ever since I say the first star wars.

Jedi teach to supress hate and anger, yet the sith use hate and anger to make them stronger.

But I have seen in a few star wars movies that the good jedi only manages to win against the villian when he gets mad. Luke beats vader in front of Emporer after vader taunts him and makes him angry. Obi-wan only beats Maul (after he just killed his master) becouse he was angry and vengeful.

Anyone have any insight on the subject? Its always been a curiousity.

Also, is Yoda the only one of his species? Cause you never seen any like him.

What's Yoda's species called anyway? I've looked on other websites and it either says that it's unknown or they just call it "Yoda's Species".

I read up alot on the Star Wars characters,so if you want to know more about one of them I'm the fan to talk to.
Kit Fisto and General Grievous are also my favorite characters of them all.
May the force forever be with you.

Just because they did, doesn't mean that they couldn't have won without it.

If he'd wanted to, who is to say he wouldn't have beat him without anger? It's not that he couldn't beat him without anger, it's rather that he didn't have any desire to fight his father. If he had, he'd probably have beat him. Also it was more of a defensive anger he had aimed at protecting his sister; he didn't necessarily have any reason to actually destroy vader, just stop him and hence, that's all he ended up doing.

He had every right to be but he was also more focussed. Again, who is to say that he wouldn't have won without that if he'd been fighting him alone and Qui-Gon hadn't been in his way?

In EP2 Yoda wins without anger. In EP3 Obi-Wan wins with sadness rather than anger.

Ehhh, I guess it might be about the longterm hate or calm attitude. Both can have moments of rage and succeed (or not). But in the end the most calm and caculating person wins.

As Louis XIV once said; ''the one who has the most patience will always win''.

You make an important point, which I believe highlights the problem with both ethical codes. Pure clenched brutality will quickly lead to mistakes and sloppiness, but success is not to be found in emotional apathy either. The point here is one of control: both the Sith as well as the Jedi seek to use the force as best they can, even if their intentions and approaches differ. Yet both ethical extremes are inefficient for that purpose.

Having your passions take over may result in actions that are unintended and may lead to crappy outcomes. Whereas the complete suppression of emotions will hinder your performance as well: you just perform better, mostly physically but mentally as well, with a good jolt of adrenaline in your body. Control and moderation is what it should be all about. Therefore, the point should not be to fight without emotions, but to meet the threat of violence with a non-reactive, fully controlled aesthetic of calm eruption.

EDIT: Then again, I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to SW lore, so take my interpretation with a grain of salt.
