Shadows

The sixteen year-old marine force recon Captain stared into the night sky. Why does night on these desert worlds have to be so cold, thought the youth as spasms caused by the cold racked his body. His hot breath was chilled by the frigid air came out in colds as he forced his lungs to inhale and exhale the icy atmosphere. His green eyes were riveted to a pen prick of light in the inky blackness.
“Sir?” The sound of the captain’s second-in-command broke the captain’s focus on the star he was looking at.
“Front and center marine” the captain ordered in voice that spoken as if the words themselves fragile as a pottery, and needed to be handled with great care. The sand barely crunched under the booted feet of the newcomer as he approached with cat-like stealth to left side of the other soldier. The pair said nothing for what seemed like an eternity.
“Why is it mankind fights itself?” asked the captain his right hand coming up to chest height.
“Because we are born into a place drowning in sin” answered the First Lieutenant. The captain snorted, rubbing a jagged scar that throbbed with searing heat as it reminded its owner, who created the wound. The scar twisted its way from the cleft of his nose slicing down to his chin. The skin of scar and surrounding tissue felt like leather to the captain’s gloved hands; tight, raw, chafed. For giving him that wound which the time was open bleeding like a waterfall. The young soldier killed the man that had done the deed, by shooting him the head. This action however did not give the soldier any glee, any jubilation.
Instead for days after the captain wailed and cursed himself for acting out of rage, and anger. He had taken the life of another soldier just doing his duty. He smelt the putrid, rotting corpse as it lay decomposing six feet under. He could see worms feasting on the body of someone’s brother…someone’s son, the worms would slither through the body of the man whose soul had left him. The marine had to wonder, was the man he killed truly evil, or just a patriot fighting for what he thought was right.

Well well Mr. Ammons, looks like you managed to slip back in here again.

I don't know who accepted your application, but we'll do our best not to let it happen again.

Toodles, Mr. Ammons. ;)

I think you would have been better off editing your previous post instead of posting again.

Again, paragraphing?
As I understand from before the forum reformats it when copying and pasting, but it should still be a 2-3 minute job going through it all.

I'm not going to comment on your story as I haven't read it just yet.
