Website Migration -DJ Sith - Dec 14 12:32am |

Heads up, jedis! In a few hours I'll be migrating this site to a new host. After the site reaches its new home it may take a few more hours for the new DNS records to apply. I'll comment on this post when I've started and once more when it's all done. Thanks, everyone!
Update: If you can read this then the site is resting comfortably on its new server. Woo new hardware! |

Here are a few stats for the nerds.
The old web server is an Athlon XP 3200+ with 1G RAM and a 250G RAID1 array. It's a server colo'd at my former employer, and its parts were in-part paid for by a donation drive we ran a few years back, though I think its motherboard is one of my old gaming motherboards. It runs FreeBSD 6.4 and has an uptime of 640 days. It brings a tear to my eye to shut her off. That box has been running the JA since 2003. We've been through a lot together. 
As time went on I eventually got promoted to customer (makes losing your job sound more pleasant ) and had to rent a server to keep us up and running. The new server is an Intel Xeon 3470 quad-core with 4G of RAM and two separate 500G drives. This one is in SoftLayer's Dallas 5 facility (a very well organized and maintained datacenter) and has a few niceties like IPv6 connectivity (woo! We're catching up with the 21st century!). It runs 64-bit FreeBSD 8.1, and the JA stuff exists within a jail on a dedicated drive to help keep it separate from my personal projects. A number of daemons have been updated, and there are a few new security policies in place. Right now its uptime is 34 days. I think it'll serve us well for quite a while.
