long time no see guys~

I am trying to decide whether I should buy KOTOR~
I saw on the web that KOTOR's engine is just like Neverwinter's with tons of dice throwing

but I can't quite imagine how a Star War game can be like this.... SW should be fast paced and with many intense actions~
is the dice throwing used only in some situations? or everything including fighting like in NWN?

Isn't KOTOR and JK2/3 completely different???

JK2/3 is an action or FPS genre but KOTOR is a RPG~

I think it compares very favourably to JK2/3, actually. The combat is reasonably good, not especially better or worse than JK2/3 (it's comparing apples and oranges really), but as I said it's not the main draw of the game. It's the fantastic plot, the stunning locations, the wonderful character interaction, and having to actually THINK - in terms of puzzle solving, what to say in a conversation, whether you can afford to give money to the guy whose life is in danger because of his debts... that's where it beats JK2/3, hands down.

KOTOR is a good game.

But once you complete it, theres not much to go back to. Not much re-playability in my opinion, hopefully KOTOR 2 in spring 2005 will be better.

Bail Baill :D

Sounds like me :D

But yeah, KOTOR is pretty great, though it can get pretty boring when you compare it to JK2 - JK3

Yeah, KOTOR is pretty excellent. I played a (male) Scoundrel/Jedi Consular called Bail Baill (couldn't think of a decent name, eventually the random name generator came up with that :)).

I'll leave descriptions of combat to someone better with words than I. Rest assured it's pretty good, though. It's not the main reason for buying the game, however.

hmmm...

can someone explain to me how to routine of the combat works?
like what happened in between you see an enemy and you are finished with him

In NWN its just one click on the monster, and then wait for it to be killed and then click again

It is attack cycle based, with queued attacks. So it can feel fast paced, but it's nothing like JK:JA.

It has a GREAT story though. I wish that if they were going to make a Star Wars MMORPG, they had set it in the time period of KoTOR. Then it wouldn't have mattered if there were a bunch of Jedi and Sith.

but this game is not "expandable", right?

can't make missions, multiplay etc... not like NWN which has tons of add-ons

and I just can't think how a SW game can be played on a turn-based basis.... u strike once, then he strike, repeat....

I'm playing KOTOR right now and it's really awesome. You can go all out fast pace if you want, I mean you don't have to pause the fights to coordinate your moves if your really nuts :)

But it is a deep RPG imo, tons 'o fun. :D
