Okay, here's the deal;

Over the past few weeks we have recieved alot or reports of laming and various rule breaking incidents on the Servers.
A short list of some of the offences are as follows:

Laming
Disrespect to fellow Students and to JAK+
Not paying attention/causing disturbances in Classes
Weaponary being used outside of the Fortress
FFAs/Duels all over the map, such as the Courtyard, where people spawn into the game
NPC exploiting (IE, Spawning too many and/or luring them outside of their designated spawning rooms)
Disrespect to Vladarion's Memorial (Attacking it, mining it, jumping on it, fighting near it)

Alot of these cases are coupled with arrogance, ignorance and sheer disreguard for others and for the rules.

This stops here and now.

I have locked down the entire Map on ALL JA Servers, Students no longer have access to the following areas:
The NPC Reborn Room
The NPC Droid Room
Vladarion's Garden
The Fortress

I apologise to those of you who actually follow the rules and behave respectfully while on our Servers, but this has to be done to make some of you realise that you must obey our Rules or you will have these kinds of privelages taken away from you, recieve warnings and eventually, be banned from the Academy.

All Students must read the Rules before joining any of our Servers for the first time.

This "Lockdown" will stay in effect untill we see some improvements in peoples behaviour.

If you have Enrolled in a Class that needs to make use of any of these areas, your Instructor will unlock them for the duration of the Class only.

So, start setting some examples for yourselvs, have a good time, follow the Rules and this lockdown won't last long.

Carry on.

:( ok guys here is the fun ones input:

all you guys have it in you to do the right things and keep doing them. to do what has been mentioned here shows a great disrespect to those who follow the rules and to those who have to enforce them.
i ask you this: if this were your place of learning would you like to see your rules adhered to or would it be just another place of acting stupid. i for one think that if you wouldnt care then you should set up your own servers and take all the rabble there.
now while vlad's memorial is a game generated memorial and yes it is fine once you disconnect it is a representation of how we who knew him feel and how much we cared for vlad as a friend. know this though that room is a very sacred and well respected place and to defile it just says alot about how cruel some people can be.
most of you who know me know that i am ALL about the fun. but not at the expense of the people who work so dam hard to keep our community running and give us such great maps to use. i for one think we should pay omage to them by doing what is expected of us. they dont ask for thanks they just ask that we use it the way it was meant to be used.
so for those of you who think your gonna get away with this sort of CRAP on my watch your sadly mistaken. i will deal with this sort of thing very harshly if not for the sake of the rules but for those who follow and uphold them and also for all the hard work put in this place.
im sorry to have to be that way but we are here to have fun but only in accordance with the rules. so guys dont force them to shut it down completely. take that sort of thing to where it is allowed and ill do my best to have fun with you guys and keep it fun.
as always your knight

The JAK+ don't break the rules, they enforce them.
The reason that they are JAK+ in the first place is because they work hard for the Academy.
Therefore, they have the right to be able to teleport.
They have the right to use these areas when Students can't.

Why?

I say again; Because the JAK+ don't break the rules, the Students do. And it is the Students that are having their privelages taken away.

This does not mean all Students break the rules. Far from it. But this has happened to try to get all of you to communicate more and work for a better experience in the JA together.

When we start seeing results, we'll unlock those places again.

it is vague because there is no straight definition for "laming".

and, like all rules and laws, ours are a bit "washy", thats just the way ;)

Exerpts from the rulespage:
Quote:
There is absolutely NO fighting or agressive action unless agreed upon. Along the same lines, it is not allowed to attack someone while they are typing (unless the typing icon appears while you are in the middle of an attack).

Quote:
Please keep guns in the gun area (the courtyard in JK2 and the fortress area in JK3). The same thing goes for setting det packs/trip mines traps outside that area. If we catch you doing this you'll be subject to disciplinary action. The only exceptions to this rule is if the presence of guns or traps outside of the gun area is OK with everyone on the server. If someone has a problem with it, even only one person, then don't do it. Remember that tripmines stay in place after you disconnect. Please destroy them before leaving the server.

Quote:
Any extraordinary activity (such as FFA, roleplaying, king of the hill, etc.) involving guns or other agressive actions outside the gun area or any other rule violation must be ok with everyone on the server. To avoid confusion to people joining the server during such a session, stay clear of the spawnpoint, or tell them directly when they connect.

You were saying?

And in any case. Do you try to hack the server. No? Why not?
OH...cause it's common sense not to do it.

The rules aren't all inclusive as it were. If they would be we would have a list of rules 8 pages long. Most of it is there if you look. But just use your heads.

I kinda see what HarlequinD'Kana is talking about because it is fuzzy on what exactly laming is. From what I gather....its only laming if there is a victim (ie someone complains). I say this because friends lame eachother all the time. But if someone is lamed and there is a complaint, then I guess it becomes an offense.

It's a touchy subject because we all want to have fun here - and some of that fun is screwing around with your buddies. But we also want to enforce rules and set exampes - because new students seeing others 'lame' eachother might get the wrong idea.

There is a reason it has never been defined: flexibility. This is a good thing...and sometimes not always a good thing. So I guess whats inbetween the lines is 'lame at your own risk' - if there is a complaint then you're in hot water. Otherwise its overlooked.

Guys i feel the ruls need re-writing as alot of what u said abouve isnt in the ruls and i feel they should be in there.

Laming for one isnt in the rules that maybe why some new people are doing it in the first place.

As for FFA at the spawn point that isnt in the rules either i dont think dont quote me on that but it should be and desides ive seen plenty of JAK doing it as well and they are supposed to set an example.

Also i dont see the JAK+ having these restrictions all they do is teleport into these areas and oooo look a private area for them to train and orn there skill where we cant. if we are going to hav restrictions then these restrictions should be to all members of the academy and not jus JAS or JAP.

No disrespect to you guys but could we plz update the rules.

I respect the decition you guys have made but i wount be playing too much until these problems are sorted out as it restrics my training and has taken alot of fun out of te game for me and all because some idiots cause trouble.

I see your point Squib.

But our position is this. We do get reports about this. The problem is that we get too many of them. We needed to take a drastic step to make some people realize that it isn't a right to have access to some areas...it a privilge. And like all priviliges it comes with responibilities.

None of this reflect of course on most students. And we hate to have to do something like this. But it was the only real way to make certain people understand whats what.

I feel alot about this issue. Mostly cause i co-wrote the rules with Fizz. And when people disregard them totaly I feel a wee bit insulted.

Just to clarify,

I do support the council in this and all decisions:

That is that I will do my best to make the idea work, not complain about the decion, help to enforce the decision and respect the way the council has handled the problem.

That does not mean that i have to agree that it was the best way to handle the problem, or that I fully understand the decision.

But I will accept it and try to make it "work"

Just incase you thought i was having a go at you guys im not.

Though I am a little upset that you do not trust the sensible members to report any rule abusers and persuade them to not be foolish without having to do somthing like this :(

The thing that irritates me is that I'm one of the few ppl in Australia who plays a fair bit. I can't say that I've seen anyone lame (without it being "fun" laming) in a long time - most likely cause I play in a different timezone.
It's always the few that spoil it for the many.
However, I'm not saying that I don't support the council...I do, 100%.
Oh well...that's life I guess :)

I cannot tell, I haven't seen this coming...

Thanks to the whole Council to take this type of hard decisions. It's the only way to show everyone they must care about others.

And maybe to show ppl like me that sometimes our behaviour between friends could give a wrong view of the academy to new students.

Also, keep in mind that YOU can help us make the servers a nicer place.

You see someone laming around memorial?

SCREENSHOT IT, CONDUMP. These two commands are your friends. Take them with you at all times.

Of course, ALWAYS try to solve it the "nice way" first. Try talking some sense in people and have them SEE what they are doing. If they still don't listen then, you can bring it to us, so we can solve it, one way or another.
