Hey-ho!

Just my luck, after shortly joining the jedi academy my internet is cut dramatically. So I'm left doing a lot of nothing, when wanting to enjoy the Star Wars universe.

So I've recently watched all the films again, including all the making of docs (which I kind wished I didn't. Knowing how they did all that kinda ruins it a ickle).

But anywho...to my point.

I'm now left desperate for more Star Wars action, more mythology and back story. I've only ever read one Star Wars book, I think it was called Jedi Search. It had something to do with spice mines, a clust of black holes, and a prototype of a DeathStar and I think it had something called a Sun something.

Anyway, if you've read all that I'd like some advise on what would be the best book to start from. I know the above is a trilogy, but I kinda of want something more Jedi orinated for now.

Any help will be muchly appreciated.

Thanks

/hoping to get his internet back soon

(sorry about before, I must have posted it whilst switching windows without realising)

BTW, the aforementioned trilogy is quite Jedi-oriented. :)

Tales of the Jedi are comic books and not actual novels.

Thanks all for the advise, really appreciate it and all very helpful.

Especially D'kana's link.

Looking at the link, I want to start Tales of the Jedi: Knight of the Old Republic, but I also want to go with your advise and read The Truce at Bakura.

So, has anyone read Tales of the Jedi, and if so what do you think? Do you still think I should go with Truce at Bakura?

Thanks again

There are various places you can jump on the EU bandwagon, although as previously stated its probably best to go from Truce at Bakura. However it depends what you are interested in, there are plenty of novels set in and around the prequal trilogy these days covering events in the clone wars for example. It also depends on how much time you have to read, there are a lot of star wars books these days! The New Jedi Order is sometimes described as a jump on point for new readers however most fans would recommend you read some others first.

I started with the Thrawn Trilogy, Shadows of the Empire (set between Ep 5&6) and Bakura, then read various other books published by Bantam. Of those published back then i would recommend the X-Wing series for witty lines, space combat, pilots, and commando's (but not much jedi in those except for Corran Horn); I,Jedi is also a really good book about Corran Horn and in some places runs parallel to the Jedi Academy trilogy, its also one of the only star wars books written in first person. Tatooine Ghost is a book primarily about Han & Leia but is a great read if you are interested in those characters. Courtship of Princess Leia introduces you to the Nightsister cult of force users who have become quite popular.

Skipping forward a bit you get to the Corellian Trilogy which shows Han & Leia's children a bit more grown up among other things. Going back a bit there is also the Han Solo trilogy set 10 years before episode 1 and focusing on the legendary scoundral, they are a great read and i rank them among the best star wars books i have read. Then there is the Hand of Thrawn duology set a good 19 years after A New Hope, these two books see the potential for peace between the New Republic and the Empire but you will have to read it to find out if it ever happens. Shortly after that there is a book called Survivors Quest which is interesting if you like reading about Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade (an EU character who has become popular), then there are lots of Young Jedi Knight books which i have never read, these are primarily aimed at younger readers and follow the Solo children's life at the jedi academy, and the various adventures they go on.

After that there is the New Jedi Order, one of the most popular yet conroversial series of books in star wars. It is set over 5 years and covers 19 books. The story is about the invasion of a previously unknown alien race possibly from beyond the galaxy, i greatly enjoyed most of this series and some great characters come out of it. Most recently is the Legacy of the Force series currently on Book 2 of 9, set after TNJO.

/End of Waffle.

Edit: Oh yeah here is a link that can give you further assitance of choosing something to read.

I'm with Buzz and R2 here, The Truce at Bakura is probably the best place to start.
But if it's Jedi your after then perhaps you should start in the days of the old republic with the Jedi Apprentice series, they're kid's books but hey, I enjoyed them.
It covers from when Obi-Wan was a young Padawan out with Qui-Gon solving probles throughout the Galaxy.

Anyway here's a link to the Star Wars Timeline.;):D

Yeah best bets are to read the novels by zahn, and then the x-wing series novels. I, Jedi by Michael Stackpole is also very good but I recommend reading the X-wing novels first.

The other option is to attempt to read the EU in chronological order, which would begin with A Truce at Bakura.

Jedi Search is the first book in the Jedi Academy Trilogy. That concentrates a lot on the Jedi (hence the name). I think it would be a nice place to start. BTW, it is called a Sun Crusher heh.

If you want a general SW EU trilogy, I'd recommend the Thrawn Trilogy which starts with Heir to the Empire.

I started out reading the X-Wing series and moved on from there.
