JK4 possibility (shot in the dark)

I was just reading a few gaming articles and came upon this.

I'm going on a huge assumption, but the mention of developers with sword-fighting game experience and it being Action/Adventure make me think. There really isn't a better game that fits that criteria than the Jedi Knight series. Major publisher, sword fighting, sci-fi.....possibly JK4?

Anyways, 99.9% sure it will not be. Rumors are fun though!

With all these new Disney Star Wars movies on the horizon, is it safe to assume we'll get another JK game?

JK4 would be fun. Though after all this time it will probably only disappoint people.

On the subject of making your own JK4. I believe it is possible by modding. You don't need a SW license for a mod. Or at least there are mods out there which don't. I also think the JK series fanbase has enough skilled people to make it. And I think Moviebattles III is on it's way to being close to jk4. If anyone would decide to make JK4 happen mod-wise I would surely help them.

And in the end they will just make a button smasher similar to TFU because they want to appeal to the widest audience possible, which necessarily means releasing the game on all consoles. I personally stopped caring about JK4 a long long time ago for that reason, so even if they were to announce a jk4 right now, it would leave me completely cold.

Kickstarters have proven to work when an influential person or IP is involved, however I cannot for the life of me see LA ever allowing someone to try and do it with JK4 - and without their support the project would never get the required backing sadly.

It'll be interesting to see what comes of Tim Schafer's Kickstarter project and whether Obsidian go through with their idea of starting one aimed at old school RPGs. Publishers/developers like LA may smell profit if such projects prove successful.

There will be JK4... I promise you that!

Have people ever thought of doing address of some kind?

or

putting up own company to produce JK4 and ask about Lucasarts for JK license?

For sure there's demand for JK4 kind of game, but no resources. Thinking about JK passive fanbase It easily goes around 10000, while only 100-200 are active.

I would for sure pay a year 100 € to keep the game alive and improving. If the rest of was doing the same, It would easily had 1000000 € per year market hole.

It is a lot of money to somebody.

oh and with 110 € per year would include mapping program, good 3d modelling program, personal JK4 server and source code which doesn't workout outside of your personal JK4 server.

Extra servers would cost you 10 € per each and year.

Lets take a race, who will make it first! Go!

Actually, it is most likely KotOR 3 would never have happened at all going by what those involved have said on the subject.

And with that said, I'm afraid games like 'The Force Unleashed' are the future of 'play-as-a-jedi' kinda games., which are also of the hack 'n slash type. So, the future does not look good, lol.
This, pretty much. I do disagree with you regarding the accidental nature of jka's gameplay - they had jk2 as a reference, which was out for about a year or so. So I do believe they were aware of what they were doing.. for the most part!

I think it is perfectly possible that there will be a sequel to JKA, but it is almost impossible that they will try to create a similar gameplay to JKA for the reasons Dash mentioned and which I've been championing for the last couple of years. Therefore I do not know which is worse: never having jk4 see the light of day or to have it turn into a TFU2.5?

PS@alex: If it weren't for this abomination of a game, we would EASILY have had a perfectly good kotor3 right now.

Except the article states the game will be "a 3rd Person Action/Adventure sequel in a high-profile science fiction franchise."

That narrows down thins considerably.

I can't help but be sceptical, after all this time who wouldn't be, but who knows? LucasArts haven't released a game for a while, they may look to their back catalogue for a sure fire hit. I remember when everyone said there would never be a KotOR 3 and look where that got us... Yeah, yeah no 'real' KotOR 3 but you get my point surely.

Also I think you would be surprised at what the devs intended, at least with JKJA. They knew by then the sort of quirks and expansion possible with the series and would have pushed it in places. I do agree that it was almost certainly never intended to have the depth the community eventually extracted from it however.

You can never rule out where games will go net though, things like this often go through fads and things and will end up coming full circle.

Agreed, rumors are fun. Actually, the article only confirms that the game is developed together with a 'major publishing company', that it'll be a 3rd person action / adventure and that it might have a multiplayer component. So it doesn't need to have Sword Fighting per se, or be a sci-fi game... and that gives us about endless of possibilities...

Call me cynical, but I fear that Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy is the last game ever made in the Jedi Knight series. I'm afraid also that this game was supposed to be a hack 'n slash game with some fun combos and a couple of cool moves (stabs, kata's, dfa's...) without much depth at all. I think most of the stuff we do surrounding duelling (the dance, mindset, strategy, counters, attacks, arials, etc.) and the amount of required skills that come along with it were mostly unplanned and became part of the game accidentally. And with that said, I'm afraid games like 'The Force Unleashed' are the future of 'play-as-a-jedi' kinda games., which are also of the hack 'n slash type. So, the future does not look good, lol.

Rumors are always fun. People get their pants wet in thinking it will be battlefront.

But nowhere does it state that it will be a Star Wars game. But it will be a "sequel" and will be "3rd person action/adventure"ish.

We will see :)
