Our server is now one of the busiest. 1 hour 15 minute queues are not uncommon.

I for on am praying they increase the server capacity, otherwise I will strongly consider creating my main on a different server or, if it is not too long around the corner, paid transfer my currect character to a different server. :(

As I understood it, they capped the busy servers from EGA to discourage people from creating characters there.

If you want to make a new char and are put in queue for it, you're likely to go elsewhere.

Caps should be released soon I guess.

Then again, this is me playing a guessing game based on what I've seen on my own server.

This sounds like good MMO design.

If only there was a way to solve it. It's not like other MMOs have 400k players in a single universe and no queues, right?

well at launch day they added about 6 more servers and last time i checked they where pretty much empty..but they did fuck up big time not having more server during pre-launch to spread every1 out more..also the queues arnt that bad anymore...a few days ago it was way worse but now it takes maybe 40mins if u logon around 17.pm..if u get on around 14-15 it shouldnt be much of a problem to get on:eek:

so the option is, move to another server (one of the new ones) or w8 for everyone else to spread out :P..they should add sum "move character to another server" option thingy and the problem would solve it self

Don't like to wait in a queue for a game that you have paid so much money for and are forced to maintain a monthly subscription just to be able to play the damn thing? Tough luck bros, queues are here to stay:

Quote:
“We’re monitoring all of our servers around the clock, and we’re raising server population caps where required. However, to ensure our long-term goals of server stability and healthy populations, we do not want to raise population caps too rapidly. We want incoming players to populate lower population servers. At the same time, higher population servers will not be ‘locked’ because we want to allow people to join a server to play with their friends if they wish to.

“With this in mind, we wanted to notify everyone of some consistently high population servers. These servers are closing in on their absolute population cap (the maximum amount of players who can be on the server at any given time) and will likely have a queue to enter even at off-peak play times.

“We strongly advise you to not create new characters on these servers, unless you are prepared to queue to play.”

Queues are even less fun when you get dumped off the server for no apparent reason and have to re-queue!. :D

I think it was due to the maintenance impending, or it was kind of late when maintenance ended. I am trying to log in at 10:30am right now, and there is a 200 person queue on Jedi Covenant...

On the EU servers there was a whole bunch of us who went from a queue of several hundred to toon selection screen at around 7ish UK time. So yeah, I think they have put the caps up.

I assume they think everyone in EGA had settled on a server and so didn't risk flooding a single server by upping the caps.

Server capacity is going to be boosted tonight to prepare for the launch tomorrow :).

If only we had something to say regarding to that. Bioware placed us on The Red Eclipse, not us . Adding to that, in pretty much every MMO, the MMO developer handled the queue issues quite good within a short period of time. Might be a bit annoying now but it'll ease out in a few (if not less) weeks. Sure, queues are annoying sometimes, but I would much prefer a queue over an empty server. More people on a server also means more people to quest, group and interact with :).

1) We didn't pick the server.

2) We are talking about the migrating players themselves in order to both lessen the queue time, which for some is ridiculous, and to increase population on servers that are currently quite sparse.

And to be honest, 6 days may not seem much to you but for some it can be a significant investment of their time. Worthy enough to be annoyed at having to restart from the beginning. All this is moot as most people here seem like they plan to do exactly what you suggest anyway.

lol, I went to Chuundar as soon as I got my access and since then I've been in queue for a total of 10 mins and 2 seconds. One time it was 10 mins, the other time it was literally 2 seconds.

You pick a popular server, you deal with queues. It has been that way in pretty much every new MMO.

As for Server transfers.

I mean, you've been playing for what, 6 days now?
Why would you wait for those. It's not like you've done anything that requires a lot of hard work to get back to that point. It's 6 days, in an MMO. Seriously.

If you don't want to deal with queues, and they still exist after official launch, just pick up and go somewhere else.

This is per individual and towards the JA.

Always the same during every MMO launch in the first week. I remember on Warcraft launch we had queues going up to three or more hours. It'll balance out in two-three weeks. Always has with every MMO I've played so far.

Adding to that, Rockjaw already confirmed the server caps are very low at the moment to ensure a good spread of people before the launch, meaning servers are no where near their max capacity yet. I wouldn't worry about it too much. We're still in the pre-order days :).

The real problem, in my opinion, was that a majority of the pre-launch guilds were placed on servers within the first day or two of early access. Everyone who has joined up will feel compelled to go where their guild is. Thus, the new servers aren't as effective when these initial servers get packed.

I've only seen about a 30 min wait max for Jedi Covenant, but it has steadily gotten a little worse each day. My other server has some huge guilds on it right now, and the waits are even longer.

I really don't know how hard it will be for Bioware to move players to other servers, but it may get to that point. I hope they still have the ability to raise population caps significantly.

Yeah I don't think it will solve itself, I would just be amazed if BioWare didn't step in.

We are focused on our own server problems, but the same issue is affecting others servers with a 5-6 hour wait. They know they will get some massively bad press over this if they don't resolve the problem.

I was perusing the forums or somewhere (twitter or facebook maybe) within the past day after I had issues with the wait time on the queue too and someone from the Dev Team addressed this and stated that they are completely aware of the queues and it being an issue but they are adding servers in smaller waves. They want to make sure every server has a full load before opening up another group, etc. Man, I wish I could find that article. It makes sense but nonetheless stinks. I have to laugh, I was able to get on the server just fine (mostly late night early morning for EU when US is at peak server times). In fact I debated just making a my main on the EU server just so I could play without issue :).

It's definitely going to be interesting come Tuesday. If they don't adjust properly for those population influxes coming in, expect 2-3 hour queue waits, although thinking about it some, if a server is full, they'd mostly go to the newer servers anyways. Who knows, I'm pulling for them, though, I like the game, just need to iron out the few problems they have here at launch.

I'm not so convinced that this problem will (automatically without GM intervention) solve itself after the official launch.

The reason why it is occurring is simple: Originally there were what? 10 Servers available? Everyone joined those.

Then when eventually us late-comers (Dec 5th preorder) were able to join, we had the choice of 50 servers: 40 empty ones, and the first 10 where all the guilds and friends we know had already settled.

There was practically 0 chance of me wanting to create a EU character on any server OTHER than Red Eclipse, because that is where you guys are going to be hanging out (if you can log in!).

This pattern will continue when the other round of launch-date / christmas starting players get access, and decide to join their pre-order buddies.

I would be amazed if this is still an issue 30 days after launch.

I'll be looking for them to have explained what they are doing about it by launch though, really.

even tho im not playing this i recommend just getting busy in some other way (playing with different char on different server or whatever).
because migrating to other server wont help you at all since this is only early access.
imagine what will happen on launch.

my point being that they will have to fix all the servers anyway, if you migrate - the same thing will happen to that server as well (especially at launch).
try searching the forums if bioware have any real actual plans for this... or it might be one of those 'launch fails' that many mmos have.

Potentially we could just pick up the whole JA and migrate elsewhere if they make free transfers a possibility to correct the mistake.
